It's not your fault. Shit went bad and The Wire took two for the company. That's the only lesson here :)

@TeaDrinker3000 time to get those matching cups, Friends style

Uh the wire and this early…? Something ain’t right (−_−;)

Orr Malus

No. We're the Avon to the girls' D'Angelo. Sometimes they just want to breathe!

I absolutely love revisiting this show with L and M because their post episode discussions are so interesting.

Have a friend named Nastia who is Russian! Pretty sure it is like a Russian equivalent to "Sarah" in the US lol super common David Simon has shared frustration with a section of the fanbase that glorifies characters like Avon and Stringer, the fans who have basically any and all social commentary go over their head. I think I latch onto them because they are interesting and charismatic and obviously attractive lol but it's really not worth making excuses for any and all of their awfulness. Everyone is a product of their environment regardless of however unfair that environment is or how it conditions you. It's always frustrating when you look at a show like Breaking Bad and see how a lot of the fanbase worships him as this "God of masculinity" and actively despise Skylar and her actress Anna Gunn for "getting in the way and not listening to her man". I can just picture Vince Gilligan banging his head against the wall anytime he hears a fan tell him how badass Walter White is Really validated how LM recognize Ziggy's role and the tragedy of his character. I think it's just great storytelling, for all the efforts Frank has made to do better for his people he has absolutely failed his son. Even if the dock workers did have security and Frank got everything he wanted Ziggy would still be this broken man child who just can't live like a normal person. I like the discussion about Nick and Frank's double standards and what Milena mentioned about Frank having nothing to hide behind anymore now that he knows about the girls who were brought in. I think the argument could be made that that's exactly why he was willing to take more money to keep going. Like a lot of things on the show it's not explicitly said but by learning about the girls he now has a taste of the kind of suffering he has allowed onto others. By knowing the truth he can't hide behind his lack of knowledge anymore and might as well just take more money if he's allowed this much and more to happen.

bednaya nastya is in fact a Russian show that aired in the 2000s

I am glad someone helped her out. I was wondering and I live in South Africa hahaha

There's so much to discuss. The show doesn't really have a protagonist, antagonist, hero or villain (some notable exceptions being Omar on one side and fucking Marlo on the other). Really though, the protagonist is the city of Baltimore. All of the characters and their interactions drive Baltimore's story. So it's not only discussing the scenes and the characters, but how they affect the city as a whole

Nastya is short for Anastasia, and it's my mother's name actually.

Nastya is short for Anastasia (pronounced as 'Ah-nah-stah-see-ya')

I know it's too early for that but after you finish 'The Wire' I recommend you to consider 'Homicide: Life on the Street' for a future reaction series. It's not as well known and critically acclaimed as 'The Wire' but it's also about Baltimore and based on David Simon's book who is one of 'The Wire's showrunners. It's also 10 years older and more focused on police work and crimes solving rather than 'The Wire's more ambitious overall outlook at multiple failing corrupt institutions but it's still very good and has similar vibe. Great actors as well, especially Andre Braugher. There are some great episodes and memorable scenes from this series that can give Wire run for its money in my opinion. Especially with some notable guest star appearances like Robin Williams, Steve Buscemi, Vincent D'Onofrio etc.

I disagree with Milena just a bit. I always thought Stringer had the book smarts but Avon is an empathic leader who commands respect in a way that Stringer doesn't. I was really impressed with Avon wisdom when he gave that speech to D in the first season talking about their uncle who was in a coma. I think we agree that they are wonderful foils for each other.

The woman who was the real estate agent at the place that Nick and his GF were looking at was McNulty's ex-wife btw.

Will have to ask if that’s her full name lol Love the spike pic, classic

Tom

There's already been a clear instance of Stringer fucking up big time when it was obvious to Avon i.e. Orlando buying dope being a setup. Avon made Stringer look really stupid when he pointed out in so many words "where's Orlando going to get that kind of dough?!" I've seen a lot of people watching this show somehow end up with 'Stringer smart Avon dumb' which really isn't the case at all.

Jordan Spears

Stringer is BOOK Smart, Avon is STREET Smart. That distinction is very important.
