Vinland Saga is my top 3 but Can you guys believe that vinland saga almost got cancelled because of the fact so few people were reading it? It couldnt sustain itself but thankfully now its safer. But I might have to start reading since idk If I can wait 2 and a half years for another season. Also Quick FYI: This season finishes at chappter 99 or around there. and the Manga is at chapter 200. So easily 2 seasons and its not done yet so.

Korin

The amount of people who also completely shit on this season and say its horrible because of how different it was. I personally love this season more but there is a honestly stupid amount of weirdos who hate and stopped watching because of how this season was.

I think it finishes in Chapter 100-101, I think they will cut some stuff out that's more relevant for the start of Season 3 and will have Thorfinn go back home next episode, which they show in the preview.

One notable aspect of season 2 I've felt is the remarkable level of appreciation Vinland has gained among women. I've watched quite number of women reacting to this show. Comments like vinland lives rent free in their heads, they are obsessed with vinland/thorfinn's character are everywhere. Here milena says that this season is her favorite ever. Lola found it so life impacting. Hearing so much love for this show Makes my heart swell with happiness. Undoubtedly, the excellently crafted storyline stands as its greatest merit. However, I also think that the deliberate absence of female objectification/fan service may have also played a significant role in its widespread appeal. And also in my experience the majority of individuals dismissing it as "boring" mostly happen to be men, possibly due to the industry's prevailing expectation of bombastic action in animes. Hey, to each their own. I got more than expected, more than I deserved. Anyhow second season may act as a filter to the upcoming seasons, so people who watch the story are the ones who are truly invested in it. So long fellow true warriors. One more to go for this season.

I didn't hate it, I actually liked it a lot. But there were a lot of times where I thought to myself, ok I get it. To be fair though the same thing does occasionally happen in HxH. And one part of the ending was dumb. The English didn't rebel because Canute showed he trusted them? They should have wrote something better. At least mention giving the English Nobles more privileges so they had less reason to rebel. They couldn't care less if Canute trusted them.

It's interesting, I appreciate your opinions a lot and it's rare if ever I see a comment you write that I don't vibe with, but in this instance for me personally Vinland's usage of female characters in its narrative is one of its more glaring weaknesses. It's easy to not have fanservice or objectification when up to this point you've only had one semi important female character after we left Iceland. Female characters in Vinland Saga tend to exist merely as devices to propel the narratives of the male characters. Arnheid's story, in a vacuum, is one of just constant horror and tragedy - every single person she loves is lost to her, she suffers one of the most graphic murders in the whole series, her life is complete misery existing as a device to provide impetus for Thorfinn and Einar's stories. A running theme for female characters in this show - see Einar's female family members, whose suffering exists and is explicitly shown for the purpose of providing Einar's inciting incident (note how it's never deemed necessary that we see his father's death explicitly) and Thorfinn's 'adopted' English mother and her daughter who suffer horribly for Thorfinn's plot. It's something I think the manga gets better with as it goes on and introduces more female leads with agency, whose existences don't seem to be sadness porn solely for the virtue of giving male characters something to be emotional about. But even their subplots suffer on occasion from getting put on the backburner for interminable numbers of chapters, while 'more important' characters are dealt with, mentioning no particular names for obvious future spoiler reasons. My language is deliberately exaggerated at points for emphasis, so apologies if the 'sadness porn' descriptor is irritating to read, I can appreciate that this may be more of a particular bugbear for me than for most people, but at this point in the manga I was pleading for a major female character to have their own fulfilling storyline.

Chihayafuru is the perfect anime for you two. It’s a sports anime + romance blend. Doesn’t have the big US following tho.

Jay Craig

I adore Chihayafuru, and think they'd like it, but it's what, 75 episodes?, Anime unfinished, perhaps will never BE finished, would never win a poll, wouldn't do particularly well on Youtube for views, and is pretty slow for what would probably be a once a week slot, especially at the beginning of the first season. I love it too though, and I know if they watched it in their own time they'd enjoy it, but I've filed it away under 'Will never happen' in my head. Haikyuu before Chihayafuru, walk before run. (will probably never happen at this point now either given it came 2nd to HxH already and wasn't mentioned in todays reaction, died a little inside at that too.)

Danny

Bruh I dont think i hear anyone say its bad anymore lol. Maybe at the start some complained but the overal consensus is that the show is god tier. But could be a bandwagon thing lol

Again, briefly, the historical context: After Canute became king of England and Denmark, he sought to maintain his power base by uniting Danes and English through cultural bonds of wealth and custom and mercilessly suppressing any sign of dissent. Canute's initial measures were ruthless, as he gave away English lands to his Danish retainers as rewards; he arranged the deaths of possible rivals for the crown and had several prominent Englishmen killed or outlawed. But in 1018 Canute disbanded his Scandinavian army. As compensation for their efforts, he collected 82,500 pounds of silver, the largest dane money ever levied in England. The crews of forty ships, however, remained in royal service, amounting to a force of three to four thousand men. They formed the core of his elite force, the Tinglides or Tingamen Army. That Canute considered keeping his military and confiscating the land of the richest is not recorded in history. The Danish element in his entourage also steadily decreased as he became more and more “king of England”. Wulfstan II of York, an English bishop, is said to have played a major role in this, acting as advisor to King Canute and advising him on a wide variety of matters. Someone already commented about the saga of Canute and the Wave last time. I find the realization in the anime very interesting and gives it a slightly new meaning. In the real story, the king was tired of being surrounded by flatterers, courtiers, and people who imagined that the power of the throne was greater than the power of God. By throwing the throne into the sea, he wanted to show the court followers that they were wrong. There are certain things that a government cannot do. These include controlling the elements of nature. ----------------------------------- The following text is theoretically spoiler-free, as these events were not covered in the manga. This could theoretically change in an anime adaptation. Therefore, this information should be viewed with caution. Canute married Æthelred's widow Queen Emma in 1017, she was born in 985 and was about 32 years old, while Canute was much younger. This brought stability to the rule of Canute in England, but it was not a marriage for love. Canute was a competent and authoritative ruler, who did not allow small problems to become big. He also re-confirmed Edgar's laws (no distinction between the Danes and English or indeed any other), which were written down decades ago by King Edgar, but repealed by his son Æthelred. Thitmar says that in 1018: "The son of King Svein, and himself also the king of Angles, put to sword - thanks God - the crew of thirty ships of pirates and thus he, who had earlier been an invader together with his father, and a sworn destroyer of the country, now became its sole defender." Canute built chapels in the places, where he had had bloody battles with the English. He founded a monastery in honor of St. Edmund, who some hundred years earlier in a cruel manner had been killed by Regnar Lodbrog's sons. Later he ordered the remains of Archbishop of Canterbury, Elfeg - who was killed by Thorkell the Tall's men during many torments - with great solemnity to be taken to Canterbury.

Haikyuu is pretty mid tho. Ping-Pong is the best pure sports anime and it’s only one season.

Edgar

In what universe Haikyu is mid? While at the same time propping ping pong as best sports anime, Bruh

I appreciate your comment. There is merit and substance in your arguments. I agree with you but also I am not entirety in agreement. I do think women in future arcs are well written. Of course everything fades in comparison to thorfinn, i think as much as I loved character of askeladd, in longer run thorfinn outshines him. But to me that's feature and not a flaw of the story. Plus in anime they tend to improvise the original source work, yukimura himself has said that anime is much more complete story than his original work in manga. So i do think they'll add necessary changes as they produce further season and I do hope that they'll somewhat try to match your expectations as well with additional context and dialogues.

slipHAZARD

I honestly put this on the same level as the Mob Psycho for character growth. Both seasons of Vinland are stand alone masterpieces

GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS OMFG SHUHEI YABUTA FOLLOWED YOU ON TWITTER!!?? HE IS THE DIRECTOR OF VINLAND. You have a voice now that can reach to him. I am very sure that he has watched your reactions. You can request him in next video, final reaction of this season to keep continuing work on vinland. And if possibly release it within 2 years time. Also express gratitude om behalf of us patreons too☺️

Edgar

Idk if I agree with that personally. I think the show will use anyone and everyone to make commentary on violence. gruesome imagery and suffering of war impacts everyone in this show.

Zsdda

naa i had to check with my own eyes and i almost got hinted next ep xD AND ITS F TRUE, thats unreal GIRLS you do have a voice if you need too xD

Jay Craig

Ping Pong is like 10000% a better shout for a reaction than Chihayafuru. Only 11 episodes and they pack much more of an immediate punch in. Loved that show.

Jay Craig

I think the reaction touched on my feelings on it a bit, when Lola mentioned how while narratively Arnheid 'had to' die for what she means for Thorfinn and Einar, Pater didn't 'have to', and in fact then doesn't, because the writer understands that things don't have to be miserable or bleak just for the sake of it. I was just hoping by the end of Farmland that some women would start getting happier endings instead of usually dying tragically haha.

HenryM

Hot damn! I don't use twitter but that's amazing! Last I checked, season 3 still isn't confirmed but is very likely to happen, I just need them to tell Mappa to ignore other projects and selfishly focus all the resources and money into making season 3 as fast as posible lol

DalyDose

'They should have wrote something better' You realize that part of the story is based on actual history? The writers didnt just make that up

Anonymous

Chihayafuru is good, and one of the only “sports” shows I’ve been able to get into, but I don’t know if it’s all that suitable for reactions.

Isaac

True, be careful, but that's so cool! An LM enjoyer like us :)

I know that I just assumed he did more than place trust in them. I looked up Cnuts wiki and it seems the English Nobility enjoyed increased prosperity under his rule do to him protecting them from viking raids. The majority of whom where under Cnuts commands. So it looks like it was trust. Trust that the Nobles would keep paying taxes or he'd send his viking back across the sea to take their wealth by force.
