Cammy wins the Discord poll this month, narrowly beating out Resident Evil 4 Remake Ashley!
This is far from my first Street Fighter pin up, so longtime readers are well aware of my relationship with the series. The short version is that while I love Street Fighter for its style and its legacy, I just suck so hard at actually playing it. The special moves and combo inputs the game expects of you are like riddles my thumbs can't answer.
You know one thing SF seems to be handling well, though? Updating its iconic characters with each new iteration. It's the sixth game in a series that spans decades, and the cast reflects that. Ken is divorced, the returning ladies are starting to look milfy, and Dhalsim's bright white beard is truly epic. I appreciate that kind of acknowledgement of the canonical passage of time.
I appreciate it especially because I've seen other franchises attempt the same thing and screw it up. Like when your one and only main is canonically killed off-screen between games by a lazy Harley Quinn ripoff and her move set is divided up between her powerfully unlikable whiny children in the next game. But enough about the private hell that is being a Soul Calibur fan, we're talking about Street Fighter today.
The theme of this month was the trailers from the recent Sony showcase, which was nice, but I seem to recall it showing us very little we didn't already know about. The RE4 remake is something I'll be all over when it comes out, of course. And despite the grievous handicap of being unable to manage a shoryuken input if I'm facing to the left, I'll probably be all over SF6 as well. A new Street Fighter is always such an event, (except 5, but it looks like they learned their lesson since then) and I get the feeling I won't want to miss out on this one.
But what do you think? What's the most anticipated game coming out this year, and why is it Breath of the Wild 2? As always I'd love to hear about it in the comments.
