My song is "The Boys of Summer" by Don Henley. It tears me up. As for the timeline, the Nazis took most of France in late spring of 1940, including Paris.

Read about Conrad Veidt who played Major Stasser. He was a great star of German silent movies. You will love him. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conrad_Veidt?wprov=sfti1#

Some great classic films: It Happened One Night (1934) is one of the few films to win the big five at the Oscars. The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938, it also stars Claude Rains who played Captain Renault here) The Thin Man (1934) The Maltese Falcon (1941) A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) Rebel Without A Cause (1955) Lawrence of Arabia (1962) If you’re looking for silent films, Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights (1931) is amazing, as is the film The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari (1920). The latter stars the actor who played Major Strasser here in Casablanca. Definitely also check out Hitchcock, Psycho being I think his best, and for one of the best romcoms ever, William Wyler’s How To Steal A Million starring Audrey Hepburn and Peter O’Toole.

This now was also a first watch for me, and quite a good one. I found it a bit too dramatized, seeing where this was going, Rick's change of heart was late. Fun characters though, very good performances, interesting shots. Could have dared a bit more, but those were the times.
