2024-01-14 03:25:31 No offense to the people that actually liked this movie, but IMO the worst movie ever made. The Myst was an Oscar winner compared to this. Now about Cloverfield, you need to watch 10 Cloverfield lane.

The truly amazing thing about this movie was the marketing. It was viral before that was a thing. It was so well done that a lot of people thought it was real. The movie itself also cost around 35K to make and made well over 100M making it the most profitable movie of all time for a good amount of time.

It’s ironic to call this the worst movie ever made while also pushing the Cloverfield franchise… Cultural context is important and the Blair Witch Project paved the way for other found footage horror films. I was in middle school when this film came out, and kids were in a tizzy talking about it, most people thought it was actually real footage. Really built up the intrigue. It was also great for low budget filmmaking. Cloverfield went on to implement a lot of viral marketing around the found footage aspect to build up hype. And then one of the most profitable horror franchises of all time followed shortly after, all using the found footage style. It’s actually kind of asinine to call this the worst movie ever made.

I'm gonna pray for those three young people in that forest. And I want them to hold onto God's unchangin' hand. Cause it helped Joshua fight the battle of Jericho. Yes! It helped Daniel get out the lion's den. It helped *Gilligan* get off the island. Lawd! (It is not escaping my notice that this channel has been censoring Gilligan's Island. :-P )

I saw this in the theater alone and liked it so I took my sister to watch it the following week. Right at the end where you see the guy standing in the corner I grabbed her knee really hard just as the camera tumbled. She flew out of her seat screaming which then got about a dozen other people screaming. It was hilarious but man was she PISSED at me! Still, it was totally worth it.

I watched this film today, in broad daylight, in prep for this reaction (and the hype surrounding this film when it came out was so well done). I do not like horror. Simone’s reaction was the correct one.

I always thought it was pretty boring. I never understood why people found it scary.

Back in the day when found footage was newer, and people would tell you this actually happend, and most of us were kids, and no internet...yeah this was scary as fuck

So good. Very underrated. people don't understand how inventive and culture shirting this was. Also from just a pure filmmaking stand point the actors are incredible and the story is not boring at all. I don't understand people who think it is, they must lead very shallow and desensitized lives. Glad George and Simone "Got it". Check out CHRONICLE for one of the only other Found Footage Films worth watching. It's a super cool take on the genre as well :)

Due to a really bad case of motion sickness, I had to stop watching halfway through the movie. It was a good thing I only rented it, since I probably would have tried to tough it out in the theater and things would have gotten *really* messy.

I'm an old man, and saw this in theaters opening weekend with a small group of friends when I was younger and full of beans. It's one of the only movies I've ever been to that the theater was completely full. Zero empty seats, including the front row. At the time this was such a huge deal in terms of hype and marketing, getting people to think that it was actually real (or at least treat it as such for the experience).

I saw this back in the day, and my partner and I rewatched it a few months ago - and I think it holds up really well and is effective as a found footage, especially considering the budget. I think for the most part "not" showing the scare is more effective because it's hard for filmmakers to bring to reality the visceral nature of a scare through visuals -- though you can gross people out and jump scare them fairly easily. Also, I have spent a good amount of time camping in very remote areas of the US, and you can EASILY get lost and have terrible things happen to you. I think that accounts for a lot of Missing 411. Sidenote: the promo "doc" for this film The Curse of the Blair Witch is a fun watch. 🙂
