I consider "Fly" to be the opposite of a filler episode: it doesn't sit on its established pacing or stucture; it doesn't tack on action to distract from a lack of storytelling; it doesn't go through the motions and fill time for no reason. No, instead, it drops you into a psychological stupor; the fly is seen and heard, and you don't quite know why it's relevant, why Walt fixates on it, why the camera fixates on it, and you're with Jesse, bewildered, trying to find significance in Walt's manic focus on such a trifling object; but over time, past the bottled delirium, the awkward pauses, the slapstick hunt for the fly, everything slows and focuses. And now you're with Walt. He's now lucid. In his wooziest, weakest state, his thoughts crystallise and his words are honest. He sees meaning, not just atoms colliding. He sees consequences. He sees the danger of Jesse's improvised tower, and the senselessness of hunting the fly. "It's all contaminated." If only Walt would give in.

If you're looking for something to replace Ted Lasso, might I recommend either The Good Place or season 1 of Fargo (the television series)

Exactly, basically one location, a couples of extra without lines, that episode probably cost a tenth (I honestly have no idea) of a regular one which allows them to spend more on others. The X-Files had the monster of the week episodes but that show had over 20 episodes a year, musical episodes requires so much preparation and time. You can have a network/studio that asks for 12 episodes and you have an arc of 10 and the 2 “extra” episodes turn out bad it’s more on the creator/show runner. That episode was contained but it still progressed the story.

Instead of "filler" I'd say episode 10 was simply a break from furthering the plot to further the characters.

Difference between "Filler" and "Bottle" episodes, one (filler) to fill needed space like with ted lasso, the other (bottle) to save money for a future more expensive episode
