I come from a family who on both sides are somewhat plainly honest about whether they like gifts or not so the ambiguity was almost never a problem. It was both hilarious and demoralising at the same time haha. Eventually we also just ended up in the gift card or money camp and it’s worked well for over a decade now so George gets my vote on that one lol. Also same as Simone, have always felt odd getting either unsuitable or extravagant gifts from folks over the years as well - especially if I know their financial situations are up in the air or they get stressed out by the season.

"Are we going to see his parents die again?" You have to remember prior to this movie, Batman, at least on screen, was remembered as the campy 60s TV show with Adam West. It was an awesome show, but it was not dark or brooding at all like the original comics.

Hard to overstate how big this movie was that summer. Seemingly everyone in America was wearing Batman t-shirts. Also, as campy as it seems now, this was the first on screen adaptation to address Joker being a homicidal maniac. Watching him talk to and dance around corpses and mutilate women's faces was just not something you'd expect to see in a "comic book movie" back then. The shadow of the corny 60's TV show still loomed large.

George / Simone, on your own time watch a few minutes of the 1960's Batman TV show. That is what most folks knew Batman as, so this version, as over-the-top goofiness, was as dark as ever, comparitively. Many older folks miss the "fun" and "light" versions of things in the olde days, compared to the darker, more brooding versions of films today...

Batman canon is famously fluid. Joker killing Batman’s parents was an invention of this movie but over the years the killer has changed a number of times. Just putting this out there, the Harley Quinn movie is good

I say have Simone react to "Batman Forever" Val Kilmer and "Batman and Robin" George Clooney if she hasn't already in her own time, no they are not the best Batman movies but they're still a lot of fun to have with them, All Star Cast, don't take it too seriously and enjoy the ride 😁 but they're definitely not boring George! lol
