Last update about combat for a while, I promise!

Earlier this week a released a build of an arena to get some feedback on my combat system.  While the feedback was less then enthusiastic, it WAS extremely helpful, and I'm very appreciative of everyone who took the time to leave feedback.

There were even some fantastic suggestions for alternatives, and I've tried a few of them,  with mixed success.

At this point, I've built a simple system with the book of spells being available by hitting tab, once there you can select a spell, or bind it to a hotkey 1-4.  This will give you access to all the spells without having to remember any and button combinations.

While I like the combination idea personally, and want to come back to it, its clear its not fitting here.

While I don't think the combat system right now is final, I think its serviceable to a point where I can put more focus on making interesting spells.  I plan to flesh out at least a few spells completely before I try to approach combat deeply again.

So again, thanks everyone for being patient, we'll get back to wieners and boobs shortly!

I've now had a chance to try the combat build and have to say, it's not in a state where i would have shown it to anyone else. Compare it to "combo" spell games such as Magicka or Helldivers and the problem is obvious: The player has no idea what he is doing or what is happening. At the very least the currently active combo needs to be displayed somehow, along with possible spells that combo could finish into.

Hm, why i didn´t think about that. keys, who are on screen and lighten up, if you hit them. i am exited for the next build, so that i can test the things you have done in the last stream ;D great work as always, mithos

No it certainly wasn't in any type of done state, and my explanation might not have been complete enough. I do think it was done enough to get the feedback I needed though!

If you can expect anything from the internet, its uninhibited opinions! I'm glad your taking the feedback and using it to improve gameplay.

I think setting the spells to hotkeys that can be swapped out is probably the best solution for this. I don't know how many spells you intend to add in the game but if some are upgraded versions of earlier spells as well as support spells it would be nice to mix and match. Plus it won't be so much of a headache to remember inputs for those of us who want to use a controller.
