Hey, a new video commentary! With all this talk about Tex Avery, how about a weak imitation of one? I had a script written for a commentary of Royal Cat Nap for a while, so here it is. It's mainly an excuse to talk about the later of history of a very underrated animator, Carlo Vinci (who animated about half this one). Enjoy!

There's a mistake at about 2:50 into this cartoon that has bugged me for years. Tuffy is either coloured brown instead of grey or they accidentally included Jerry in the same scene twice. It's what you might expect of TV era Hanna-Barbera, but not MGM era, though as you point out in your commentary, the last batch of MGM cartoons do foreshadow their later work for television.

No mention of QUIET PLEASE...?

Maybe I'm on drugs, but I actually like these backgrounds.

I was thinking of the theme of "running off into the distance to make noise". But of course, you're right.

This one wasn't too bad for a later Tom and Jerry short and one I have more fond memories of. I notice that a lot of plotlines used for Avery shorts were later reused a bit by other directors after he left for Lantz, including cartoons directed by Mike Lah, notably "One Droopy Knight." I'm not shocked that Hanna and Barbera would try it too here.
