Patreon Update (Patreon)
Content
You may have heard that Patreon has announced a policy change regarding processing fees for pledges. You should have received an email about it earlier this week. Pretty much, Patreon has a fee on pledges ranging from 7-15% which up until now has been taken out of my profits. But after Dec 18, some of the fees will be shifted from me to you, meaning you pay a bit more and I get a bit more of the money that was already going into my Patreon.
So going forward:
$1 pledges will become $1.37
$5 -> $5.49
$10 -> $10.64
$20 -> $20.93
I know this is a very divisive topic, and nobody asked for this change, and several outspoken creators are adjusting their tiers so that their patrons pay the same price as before. But being completely honest, I need this money. My Patreon is my only main source of income, and frankly I've been losing a lot of money to these fees for the past year and a half that haven't been reflected on my front page. For better or worse this change is looking out for Creators and I need the money. So I will be keeping my tiers as they are, and if you feel you need to stop supporting me that's fine and I understand but I hope you stick around!
In other, somewhat related news I have been informed by Patreon that I am no longer allowed to have a raffle on my creator page, so the $20 tier will be going/changing, and I'm not sure what to replace it with because again it's a significant amount of money I'd be losing if I straight up got rid of it.
I'll keep you guys updated, but feel free to share your thoughts and comments on both the update and a new $20 tier, I'll be reading!
