MAMA 2021 Full Performances Reaction! (Patreon)

Here we goooo! BTW, I got the order of performances wrong for the first few clips as you'd notice below. Basically after the opening number I thought it went to Lee Hyori so I went there and then messed up the order. Aespa and onwards should be good though. Enjoy!

Ah. It seems that I am the first comment. When I started to watch MAMA, it was afternoon, so from start to finish, I kinda get bored. But from all the stages, the ones that amazed me most were ITZY and Stray Kids, while the other memorable ones, for me, were Wanna One and NCT To be honest, I was waiting for the usual MAMA stage that we all know, so when the other performed, I was disappointed. So I thank ITZY because they were the first group that made my jaw drop. Every member is beautiful and talented, but Ryunjin was just so gorgeous. The remix of Mafia was so good too! Of course, let's not forget my bias: Stray Kids. I would never have watched MAMA live if they weren't there. And they didn't disappoint, as always. They delivered. I expected more because of last year's Victory Song (MAMA ver.), and I'm so glad about this year's stage! I was already expecting a b-side from Noeasy that they’ll perform, so I wasn't surprised when they did Cheese. But whoa, the in-between's and props were entertaining. I loved I.N's toy car part (w/ Changbin behind him struggling) and their playful expressions throughout. But I absolutely loved Thunderous (Hero ver.) -- altho some zoomed-out parts were the worse, the camera could've just concentrated on the dance. I loved Hyunjin's part most! I didn't expect him to actually dance w/ fire (hehe, remember his SKZ-PLAYER?). And I laughed again on I.N's mic-Mjölnir moment; he was so cute. Just overall amazing. Jaw dropped once again! For Wanna One, even tho I'm not really a fan, I was crying during their performance. I've imagined their fans' feelings, and them watching this group for the first time again in years was emotional for sure. So I cried and was just smiling all throughout. I loved the dances, the vocals, such a shame it's just a reunion. They're so good! For NCT. Yeah, I'm not a fan either, but they were the only 3rd gen groups, I believe, that was on MAMA, so I waited for them too. I tell you, I giggled hard when they got 'crashed' by that giant hot sauce bottle -- giggled too long hadn't seen what happened next. That was why it was memorable to me. I only know a few members, and I was all smiles each time they got to the screen. They were all amazing

Omg yayyy I enjoy your reactions as always!! I lost it at Wanna One’s stage 😭 they had gotten an incredible amount of hate right when the news came out until before this stage (most esp. Sungwoon bc people were assuming he was the rigged member since he placed 11th) when they were only pressured by Mnet to do this. But the fact that a lot of the haters in the communities weren’t posting anything after this.. that the group’s official IG and Twitter accounts actually gained a couple thousand more followers after 😂.. that they still looked this good together after only 2-3 rounds of practice and that MAMA actually hit peak viewership ratings during their performance… I can only wonder how it would’ve been if they didn’t disband and became something like how SuperM is… 😭 Beautiful Part III is actually new btw and some netz are now hoping that they at least release a studio version of it!

My thoughts on MAMA 2021.. The intro "collab" was good but I wish it was an actual collab. Not just them doing short relay performances. That being said Hyunjin and Wooyoung were my favourites from that stage. Such distinct and different styles but they're both so good.

man the plain disrespect to txt at mama is astonishing like i can’t get over how bad the camera work was for frost (aka one of txt’s best bsides) ???? it was that bad that txt’s team actually shaded mama abt it but that aside, skz & itzy made this year’s mama worth watching tbh

TAEYONG was actually sick during that day. He was not even able to attend the MAMA live show (red carpet..) and was also not present when 127 received their award. I think they recorded their performance earlier that same day so he's probably feeling sick already when they were performing. 💔 'WHERE IS TAEYONG' was even trending during that day because he was not on the live show. Everyone was so worried for him. Fortunately, Taeyong posted on his bubble and confirms that he's okay and resting at home. He's always giving his best in everything he does even when sick. 🥺 Lee Taeyong BEST BOY. 💚

The part that is not in sync for the TXT stage is the dance break after frost, theres a few comparisons on youtube but its clear when u watch the dance practice!

Hold my beer cause this comment will be long 😂 some fyi i would like to tell you about the performances: 1. Mnet added the videos in correct order in their PLAYLIST SECTION. So you should check the playlist first next time 👍 2. SWF: The collab song is brand new and released just for MAMA, while the choreo is made by the lovely Honey J (the draft choreo by Hollybang is on her ig) 3. J01&INI: both groups came from Produce Japan (J01-season 1 and INI-season 2) and 2 members of the dance collab section are No.1 of each season. 4. ITZY: the boss dude is from Squid Game lol 5. WannaOne: There is a full group shot at 01:27:30 with one empty spot on the left for Lai Guanlin 😭😭😭 People said the lineup this year was weak but me disagree, in fact i enjoyed it way more the few previous years. MAMA did a great job emphasizing on the next generation of Kpop and most of performances were awesomeee. Only two things i felt disappointed was the investment into Aespa perf and Kep1er (GP999 winner group) not being able to make their debut there.

"Do I know this song?" No you don't lol. It's like a Stray Kids thing now to perform unreleased songs out of nowhere and blow everyone's mind. That's what you get when you give artists the creative freedom they want. I've lost of count of how many unreleased songs they've revealed a snippet of like this. I wasn't over then performing Scissors just a few weeks ago and now they do another one 😭

For Enhypen's dance break they showed a full focus of it in their recent MAMA dance practice video. You should check it out. It's short since they only included the dance solos from Heeseung, Ni-ki, Sunghoon and the Tamed-Dashed performance.

I personally couldn't tell the difference with the audio until i saw a side by side comparison TBH. Also the boys said that the Frost MV was the hardest one to do! But yeah... there were multiple issues with MAMA and TXT, like giving an award before they even got a chance to go off stage. Hueningkai was shading MAMA hard in his vlive and both Yeonjun and Soobin said that there were "regrets" with what happened.

for txt's dance break, the audio didn't sync properly with their in-ears. Both the backup dancers (who posted about it on IG) and txt's. So while it looks like they're on-beat, they're off time locationally in the track, i.e, they're not off-beat but they're off-sync. This coupled with cutting off soobin's speech the crappy camerawork for frost, and the fact that they initially left yeonjun out of the collab thumbnail; both the boys, the backup dancers, and their directors/teachers have all been rlly pissed off on social media bc of it. There's a lot of speculation that txt is getting the short end of the stick by MAMA because BTS couldn't attend and they're the only junior group in the same company; it's not the first time that's happened. MBC banned HYBE groups from performing because BTS missed an award show because of scheduling. Also they left yeonjun out of the thumbnail for their boy group comp video they just uploaded yesterday. MAMA tried fixing the audio afterwards in the videos but they still kinda fucked it up. It's a lot clearer when u watch the dance practice.

Not gonna lie I’m disappointed with what happened to Aespa’s performance. Like u said they should have at least had backup dancer’s. This felt like a music show stage (I’m being nice by saying that because the camera work is honestly better in music shows compared to this smh). Love Aespa, but whoever planned their performance/production should be replaced Don’t get me started on how they mistreated TXT this year….😒 But I will say Jyp groups (skz & Itzy) honestly to me had the best productions Wanna One made me cry Nct are kings Other stand outs are Enhypen’s dance break, Yeosang’s little solo, Brave Girls singing the legendary song Rollin’ Honestly there’s a lot of things I liked and disliked this year but overall it was good. But, not as good as some previous years.

I don’t think this MAMA was something astonishing, I think ENHYPEN AND Itzy did a great job. I enjoyed other stages too but nothing spectacular or special.

no cause i'm still upset over TXT's performance, managed to mess up the camera angle when frost is literally more facial expression oriented, filmed their stage the entire time, messed up their audio, talked about freeze the entire time but didn't even get a nomination, cut yeonjun out of the thumbnail for the collab stage, and cut off soobin's speech lol, even managed to make huening kai annoyed/upset.. and how you'd do that is beyond me, idk the whole thing was just (also sorry if you see this comment twice accidentally commented too early lmao)

I really liked TXT performance because a lot of fans were hoping for them to perform Frost. But what I liked even more was the dance break. Despite Mama messing everything up I really liked the dance break a lot and I can’t stop watching the dance practice. Also they didn’t fix the audio on the upload it’s probably just not super noticeable. But I can just imagine how bad the boys felt about themselves. Yeonjun talked about how he was not happy with himself and his performance in today’s vlive :( He also said that the audio problem threw him off while dancing but I think that they did really incredible.

I'm so surprised that you never reacted to Brave Girls before they dominated the charts this year with Rollin a song from some years ago :) You should react to some of their songs they are really good :) For Wanna One it made me really emotional because I followed them from the very start till the end and the disband was hard. I'm sad you didn't watch the Show Me The Money performance on the MAMA. The performance was amazing and k-hiphop artists won some awards.

It really sucks that SM don't value stage performances whatsoever it used to be better in the past but even then they rarely went out on award shows. It's disappointing given how much lore Aespa has and how cool of a stage they could be given with dancers and props. And even more disappointing with NCT bc they are a 3rd gen group in their 5th year that have recently blown up in popularity, their stages should be grand but SM don't care for some reason. Weird for as flashy SM loves to be they choose performances not to do so on, and such that will be broadcasted to everyone at that.

Hey Jeff not that it really matters but you got the order of every performance wrong. Anyways my favorite performances were Enhypen, Itzy, Stray Kids and Wanna One. Love your reactions and insights. Also Enhypen's dance practice for this is now out if you could please react to it.

I have a feeling that SM is really saving costs. with all their MV's being indoors and shot in studios instead of on location like before, even the stage for the NCT 2021 countdown, it's been simpler than usual. good thing the Aespa MV's are well financed.

oh I know I got the full show order wrong, I meant for the actual performances of the groups mentioned (ie SWF Groups to SWF with Hyori, INI to JO1 Duo to Full Group, etc.). I didnt think the actual show order mattered anyway since there was no grand theme/storyline for MAMA haha

As much as I love the boy groups, ITZY stole this show - they brought it, understood the assignment and COVID or not, it was a grand scale! I get that the first part with "Mission Kitty" was a bit Doja Cat but that's OK, there was a lot going on (stripper pole haha!) and that final rendition of 'In the Morning' was NOT a music show stage, it was an award show stage! Frankly, the women shined throughout starting with Brave Girls - such a class act starting the show! And the Street Woman Fighter segment was fun. The Japan groups were interesting (didn't the yacht look like it was on fire!); my big beef was Mnet's handling of the TXT performance (which I commented on your YouTube of their dance practice). I'm not fully aware of the backstory for Wanna One but you could feel the massive affection in the audience when they performed - I'm glad they felt it too.

I watched MAMA to cry for Wanna One with Wannables.Fun fact, for Wanna One performance, BEAUTIFUL PT.3 is like the end of Beautiful Trilogy. Beautiful was the title track for their second album, 1-1=0 (nothing without you). Beautiful Pt.2 was in Power of Destiny album and sang in their disbandment concert therefore for a farewell song. Beautiful pt.3 is technically a new song just for MAMA. It is very special to us wannable cos we feel like the 3 years waiting for them was reflected in this song.

I love love loved ITZY and Stray Kids' performances!!! Also really appreciated ATEEZ for having a stage where they just focused on their live vocals. Fun fact!! Stray Kids have said on a vlive that Hyunjin's fire sword was REAL FIRE, he practiced a lot with safety precautions! 3RACHA's "Hey! Monster" rap was a completely new rap they wrote for this MAMA stage and we don't know if we're ever getting it as part of an official song. My only gripes are that aside from 3RACHA who had hand mics, the other members who used head mics weren't as audible, probably because of mic problems? Or the head mics just aren't as good? Not sure. Also I was annoyed at how the camera just zoomed all the way out during their dance break with the gun-shaped guitar so we couldn't see the dance break fully. Other than that, I loved the stages!

Ahhhh so many amazing performances! I love all these groups so it was a fun night for me. They all killed it but ENHYPEN was my favourite - sooooo proud!! The intro, damn Ni-ki dance prodigy, Sunghoon dancing beautifully in blood, woah. Tamed-Dashed dance break... killed it. And both the title tracks anyway are bangers so of course it will be a great performance. So happy they got to perform in front of a crowd <3 SKZ's staging looked like a Kingdom performance, wow. Letsgooo ITZY! Yess Yangyang with more camera time in the live perf of Universe than the MV, slay king! Xiaojun always makes me speechless. So happy TXT performed Frost but the camerwork was awful wtf. Aww emotional about the W1 reunion :( btw the man you kept calling gorgeous is Minhyun from NU'EST.

I liked the opening stage but I was sad that they didn’t really collab :( A lot of moa and atiny were looking forward to seeing yeonjun and wooyoung dancing together. They are literally besties BESTIES and flirt with eachother on vlive all the time haha

Since its so obvious SM cut back on MAMA stage. They better serve with their SMCU concert! Lol.... plus I feel NCT U replaced Kepler last minute... it was probably hard for MNET to replace Kelper last minute... and since NCT Dream & 127 was already coming... it was easier to just add U to the line up.

Thank you so much for this! I'm surprised you reacted to JO1 and INI as well. I'm probably a lone soul here commenting about them haha. The lavender hair guy in INI is Goto Takeru. just some interesting information: JO1 and INI are both from Produce 101 Japan S1 and S2 respectively. Some of them have no experience in dancing or singing but their growth are amazing. Both groups are doing well now in Japan. The duo performance was special to them because JO1 Kawashiri Ren and INI Kimura Masaya are friends and from the same dance crew before they debuted into their respective groups. Ren was a backup dancer for Wanna One (he was there during MAMA2017) and Pentagon. Masaya was a backup dancer for Seventeen. Now they are standing on the same stage again. Fate is beautiful, isn't it? :)

When it comes to MAMA, I don't expect too much especially if the artists who will perform are from SM. For me MAMA was used to be a good award show but they become biased towards artists mostly from SM and YG. Not only the artists but also the audience. They are rude to the fans. Once, during an award show where there were so many artists present that time and they're groups that have no specific place to seat since they were not that popular they've left no choice but to stand on the corner. That's why SM don't give a sht to MAMA. I remember when Chanyeol and GD dissed MAMA.
