Addison

This episode is weird I will admit that, but I was a child. It was my favorite thing I’ve ever seen. Looking back on this episode as adult is definitely an experience and someone like you watching this for the first time as an adult is also an experience nothing more to say I just wanted to comment that

I haven't watched the reaction yet, but I want to say that I recently watched a youtuber who did a 5h+ recap of wizards and when he got to this storyline I cringed so hard because I hadn't revisited it with an adult mind. When I was a child Mason and Alex were goals to me (mostly because they were marketed as such by disney) and I kept wanting them to surmount their problems. Now however I realize that they weren't that great, especially after the stunt Mason pulled at the beginning of the episode (I still don't understand how I rationalized this in my head and ended up thinking Mason and Alex weren't toxic). Anyway, this is why I said in an earlier episode that I'm conflicted between liking Alex-Mason more or liking Alex-Dean more. My choice is hard mostly because of nostalgia, because otherwise I think I would pick Dean in a heartbeat since I feel like he was really great and it could have developped into a really cute and healthy relationship.

I definitely remember masons arc here being longer and more built up. I also remember the marketing/ trailers for this episode it was a very dramatic wizards episode and the music in it highlights that. Selena was going through a real life break up during this (nick Jonas) so she was pulling from her real life.

I honestly prefer Dean I think her and him had the best build up and the relationship was better for me.

now i'm curious if we go back and rewatch some of these shows, how many guy love interests would still hold up, and what kinda messages was disney sending us in encouraging us to swoon over them? imma still metaphorically wrap myself around chad dylan cooper and hiss at anyone who tries to come for him but all other male disney characters? fair game to be criticized and looked into lol

i do love these episodes but watching them all back to back reaaaally makes me wish there was AT LEAST one or two episodes before this with mason so we got to know him better, because other than the fact that it seems kinda rushed i think they’re really solid episodes. i can kinda see justins perspective bc he’s always been pretty protective of alex and i guess he was also jealous with the juliet thing, but i feel like justin in other episodes wouldve heard him out - he seems kinda out of character here (but david henrie acted his ass off in this episode) also i agree max is the best part of this episode.

while i do think what mason said was shitty, they explained in the episode that it was a result of his impulsiveness by being a werewolf. he showed that he truly didnt mean what he said and that he really does love alex. so tbh, i dont rlly see it as toxic, just an unfortunate situation caused by something he doesn't really have much control over.

for sure!! i was watching a CDC compilation on youtube the other day. took me back to my old fanfic days lol that character will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart lol

ngl when you started the show these two episodes are what i was most excited for you to get to. but now that we're here i feel like we were all brainwashed or something as kids cause everyone remembers this as one of the biggest relationship drama things disney has ever done, and i genuinely remember mason and alex being together for much much longer than this before this storyline took place? but it definitely did not hit the same at all rewatching it now

Cassidy

That’s been genuinely confusing me too, like I could’ve swore they’d been together much longer

Elvis on the next episode!

As a kid, I did love this episode. And I still like it in general in terms of the tone just because I like when sitcoms have serious moments. But nah, your critique is completely fair. Especially with the Alex/Mason stuff being rushed. I actually checked a few months back and when I saw that Wizards vs Werewolves came right after Mason's debut episode, I was surprised. Definitely didn't remember it being that fast. Max was great though. XD

Angie

Glad im not the only one who felt like we had more mason before this episode. I still love the storyline though. And I do think him confessing his love to juliet was part of him being a werewolf and the wolf in him remembered his love for juliet, that's all. I dont think he still loves her and i believe him when he says it was out of his control. But Alex of course has a right to be hurt. I just agree that everyone instantly hated him and he looked so sad. Also, it's not like Juliet wasn't going along with the rekindling.

Angie

^ agreed, Alex only recently found out he's a werewolf so she isn't aware of how he acts. Mason knows he can't control his reactions to things and his 'wolf' side reacted to juliet without controlling. In this universe, werewolfs act like dogs and dogs are impulsive and act without thinking. I think the wolf side just remembered juliet and instinctively wanted to love her.

Angie

Also, the scene with Alex and her mom...broke me as a child. Like, seeing Selena cry like that was so upsetting. I think there's only one other show where a character cried like that (good luck charlie) and it was so sad, honest the good luck charlie one's reason was worse though. I have to say, i think Mason and Alex dated like a month. Cause i assume their first episode together was at LEAST a week. Maybe two weeks cause of the time between the first 'date' and them kissing at the end. They had a few scenes in the classroom that was clearly different days. And saying i love you in a month is lowkey accurate for teenagers.

Chad Dylan Cooper is one of the best characters on disney

This was kind of a crazy and weird episode. I didn't remember much about this episode, I just remember being sad that we just got Juliet back and then she was gone.
