I modeled all these guys last summer with the thought of maybe selling them as some sort of model pack (and I guess I still might??), but you guys have been so great to me that I want to put them here.

Feel free to use them for anything. They're all modeled on boxes in my home town (based on the textures I posted in this post). It's weird walking by random electrical boxes now and being like, "I know you. I've made you."

But they're some of my favorite assets for quickly populating a street/whatever environment with "random stuff", and adding some depth to otherwise threadbare scenes. Works good for realistic streets and scifi-type scenes. Goes well with the newspaper boxes, too! They fall under the category of "invisible details you can use over and over before anyone notices, probably".

these are really nice! I love that you pay attention to the detail by adding all this extra stuff without making the scene feel like "too much" . do you have a video on how you got started with this project and how you go about developing the story with a vfx oriented mind to fuel it?

So awesome, thanks Ian!

This sort of thing is gold to me. They're the kind of unsung, non-hero objects that every good environment needs but are way down the list of things to be modelled. The visual environmental noise that your brain filters out of everyday life, but you notice it's absence. Thanks, man! BTW you would definitely get a few bucks for these on Artstation or Gumroad. They are far more versatile and useful than somebody's bespoke and distinctive "game ready sci-fi weapon".

Ah! That's amazing!

This is great Ian, thanks for that! I, like many others, have just started digging in to Blender, and I was wondering if you have smart way of organizing your assets? Are you using asset manager, or do you have any other smart way of doing it? Maybe you would like to share your ideas about that.

Incredible! You're releasing assets faster than I can play with them!

Meeting Ian: I made you.

I’m gonna have to do a scene with just kitbashed elements from Patreon

Anonymous

Ha! Was thinking the exact same thing. Just an exercise in using this stuff to keep in in mind for future projects

This makes me want to do the exact same process for my surroundings, street signs, random boxes and objects that are part of everyday life here in the UK. So useful!

Wow amazing, thank you!

Man... best Patreon ever.

At some point we'll be able to recreate every one of Ian's movies detail for detail! :-)

Thanks Ian!

I have the WORST organization at this point (basically just import other projects and delete everything I don't need). I'm excited to see if any of these new asset managers are what I've been wanting, though. I'd love something where you can just select the group or object and say, "Add to library", and it's just IN there and you can summon it at any time.

Fucking awesome dude! I using this for C4D and I didn't even have to reconnect any textures. I was so happy I could've cried!

IanHubert

AH! That's awesome! Yeah this was my first time trying to export FBXs, really- I'm going to try to do it as much as I can in the future!

I’ve been trying to export models with textures in Blender and I can’t seem to do it. Can anyone help?

IanHubert

Ooo- so, I don't know much about the process, but I did find out one thing: if you're using image textures, they have to be plugged directly into the shader node. I had a few times when I had a saturation or levels tweak in the middle there, and then the texture wasn't included. Maybe that's your problem??

Should be able to bake the textures down right? Thats normally how it's done when u wanna export to unreal engine for example. Oh wait this thread is 2 years old :p
