This storyline nearly made me quit watching when i initially saw it. I felt that both sides were not in the right and made poor choices. The writing for this episode in particular was an absolute catastrophe.

Yeah same, we literally got through (what we all can say was the worst) season 4, then season 5 really didn't improve the landscape of the show and then we got this whole story line, I never saw this as a Civil War type deal because throughout the whole season, this Faux "Team Canary" consistently were hypocritical, almost to the point of being delusional with their scathing comments towards the real team arrow, and I don't know anyone who would be team Canary and crew by this stage.

Quick question, how would you compare this to season 4 in terms of quality of writing? I think it's widely agreed that S4 is the worst so far so I'm just wondering

10:43 Laurel has dark hair in the video. The "disguise" is like the silly excuse of not recognizing Superman/Clark Kent & Supergirl/Kara Danvers because of glasses. Curtis disabled John's implant and not Felicity's. Her's would have left her paralyzed. That would have been worse, just saying. Still, I don't like that he did that, and it is horrible. I don't like this so-called "civil war" storyline. Laurel told the man at the end that she was kidnapped 2 years ago, which was when Damien Darhk killed Earth-1 Laurel.

Sometimes you wonder what the writers were thinking. I mean Season 4 was rock bottom. But this storyline was also quite difficult to watch. I did, but their have been moments I was tempted to stop. The break-up is one thing, but the writers shouldn't have gone down this path. Because in a good story with two teams you aren't able to choose side. Here you can only be on Team Arrow's side. As for the episode. Team Arrow did invade the bunker of Team (do they have name?), so one could argue that Team Arrow started the fight. Still the other Team crossed the line when Curtis disabled John's chip. Also when did Rene have time to pick up the bug he put on Oliver's back? Finally, they could have known that fighting Oliver could end badly for atleast one of them. They took a risk and Rene paid the price for it.

Oof that was an episode. I said this earlier and I'll say it again. This attempt at Civil War doesn't work because in Civil War everyone was technically right whereas here, everyone is wrong. I explained my reasoning on a previous episode (06x10 or 11?) so I won't go over it again. Both sides made some really bad decisions in this episode. Ig we will go point by point (I can already tell this is gonna be a long post). Team Arrow busting into Team Canary's bunker... in my book that is crossing a line. Switch positions and see how that would look. If Team Canary broke into the Arrow bunker guns drawn and said "GIVE US LAUREL!" that would be bad right? Team Canary bugging Oliver... It is now the second time Felicity has bugged Team Canary knowing how they reacted the first time. So I can see how they justified bugging Oliver in return. Doesn't make it right. Team Arrow letting Laurel get away with literal murder... Both Diggle and Dinah are right say to Oliver, if this was anyone else, they would have found another way. Curtis turning off Diggle's arm implant... I would say it looks bad and they shouldn't have done it; however, I think it is blown out of proportion. Curtis doesn't seem happy about doing and the person that should be the most upset, Diggle, is basically like "Ow... I'm okay". Like Diggle isn't even mad. The only person upset is Felicity and she is more worried about the tech than Diggle. Renee shooting Felicity... Yeah this one is straight up on Felicity. You can't jump in front of someone who is shooting then be like wtf why did you shoot me? Oliver nearly killing Renee... This is the one I had major problem with. Not necessarily that Oliver nearly killed Renee because he obviously didn't intend to do that but pointing to Curtis turning off John's arm and saying they started it. First the fact that anyone can equate disabling someone's arm to bringing someone to near death is mindboggling and so it the defense, "They started it". I will say that when I first saw it, I was in the same boat as Shan. I feel like going back and seeing it again has helped me see both sides idk

Andrew Polinski

More trying to say how the Canary and crew feel like they have the season 4 writers doing there stuff while they have different writers doing the rest of the show.

I don't care what anyone (including Shan) says. As far as I'm concerned this whole season so far has been far worse then season 4. Season 4 is ridiculous and stupid, but at the very least Damien is entertaining. I can't think of anything so far this season I've even remotely enjoyed. I'll withhold my opinion on the back half of the season until Shan finishes, but at this point I'm shocked anyone likes this more then season 4.

Luis Garcia

You're right, Damien is a very entertaining villain, and has ended up as one of my favorite villains in the Arrowverse. Besides, my problem with season 4 was with the last third/fourth of the season, while the problem with this season has kind of been persistent through a majority of the season.

Luis Garcia

With Marvel's Civil War, the two sides argued a serious topic in which both sides are at least understandable. With this fight, the argument is kind of dumb and most people probably take Oliver's side for a variety of reasons. I enjoyed Civil War, but I did not enjoy this. Honestly, after rewatching this, I feel like I disagree with new team arrow more and more. It's like the problem with Felicity in season 4/5 multiplied by 100. The people on new team arrow get upset at something that the original team did, and then decide to do the same thing themselves. It really feels like they're being kind of petty.

Renee attack Oliver with an axe!! What was he suppose to do. It’s his fault he almost died

Yes, cops should not kill(dinah), but also cops should not hide actual murderers...and not the fun kind of murderer who kills villains instead of letting them kill innocent people...actual murderer...no matter how regretful the look on her face is. what possible excuse could there be for Laurel not to have to spend the rest of her life in jail? what excuse is there for laurel this time...she continues to be the worst written character. For a second disassociate characters/actors...imagine watching a superhero show where the main hero helps an actual murderer, and not just to recover money, the hero could still get the murderer after recovering the money

Anonymous

in no world would say, Batman nearly kill Robin to help catwoman get away after she murdered Robins parents(hypothetical) in exchange for money...and most importantly not have a plan to recapture catwoman after getting the money..NO WAY, I get getting caught up in an actor, but no, just no. All Oliver had to do was tell the team that they would go after laurel after getting the money and then maybe his side would look good. But instead his plan is to actually help a legitimate murderer go completely free, and the only reason it does not seem completely uncharacteristically of what a hero would do is because of the actress who plays the character....it is fanservice instead of good writting.

I'm with you on this one with how you feel about the B team. As much as I loved this show. When it came to this split I was pissed off at them the whole time because I just feel they were stupid and wrong all along with the spying and then every disagreement they have I was never on their side. Especially in this one. And at the end with them being like with what Oliver did to him.. Seriously I mean they specifically wentout of their way to get in their way, try to kill Laurel ,hurt John, shot Felicity and Renee was fighting back and forth with Oliver and Oliver had him down gave him a chance to stop he didn't and got back up and came at Ollie with an Axe so Ollie kicked him into the tree. I mean boo freaking hoo man come on. Anything that happened was on them not team Arrow.
