Originally, there was gonna be a new character that shows up on alaric's doorstep and tells him that she's somehow carrying his and jo's twins. But then, julie plec got a call from candice king (caroline) who just found out she was a few weeks pregnant. This would mean she would have to leave the show for a majority of the season or they'd have to CGI out her baby bump or film her behind desks and counters. But least this way, they can keep her on the show though she'd still have to go on maternity leave as soon as she gave birth. Also, I thought the idea of a vampire with OCD and mood swings would be hilarious. Either way you have to admit, 7 seasons in and this show still manages to throw in a good twist

Something cool to know too is that Candice King’s real daughter’s name is actually Florence. So I wonder if naming the character who was inside Jo’s body Florence was a nod to Candice’s daughter.
