Yeah I have....not great feelings about certain aspects of this episode. Namely the Cordelia stuff.

Anonymous

Yep Stefan and angel sure have something in common.

Ryan

Right there with you Shan.

For me, this is the worst episode of the entire Buffyverse, and my least favorite season of the entire Buffyverse. Hope you enjoyed it nevertheless.

Anonymous

Really? This season is worse than Angel Season 1 and 4? Worse than Seasons 1,4,6 and 7 of Buffy?

Anonymous

Looks like Julie Plec copied the end of this episode in TVD S4 and S5

Nice catch on the Cordelias 'conversation' moments. As you said, there are several things in this episode which seem "off." But in an interesting way, IMO. And hats off to Holtz. Those gypsies got nothing on him. They just tossed their vengeance around with a chant and a spell. Holtz plans it out, starts it in motion and sees it through as far as he can. He couldn't know the details, of course, but from the moment he saw Angel holding his newborn son in the alley behind Caritas, I'm pretty sure he started planning on turning the father and son into mortal enemies.

Almost all theaters in the States give free refills on popcorn and soda. At least in my area of the States.

Shan, I said this before but I'm a massive Buffy fan who doesn't enjoy Angel. You're not alone and there's no shame in that! The shows are REALLY different. The only parts of Angel I like are the ones that tie back into Buffy in some way. I didn't watch all of season 3 but I remember Angel storylines being really drawn out and individual episodes not being all that special. Just wanted to give you my two cents.

Anonymous

No spoilers, but... it will get better later on in the series, I assure you. The wait will be worth it.

4Tom4lepus4

Personally I feel like season 3 just ended up feeling veeeeeeeeeeery drawn out. Buffy had its silly episodes and bad storylines throughout it's run, but it never felt like it dragged, at least to me. So yeah, I too can see that

Vincent Valentin

the upcoming season is a mess but also has some fantastic episodes. it reminds me of buffy season 4.

Yeah, this has never been an episode I really cared for. It's probably the least satisfying of the 12 Buffyverse finales for me. I think it might have to do with how they handle the Angel/Cordelia relationship here. I *really* enjoy Boreanaz and Carpenter's chemistry (especially in the first half of this season), but the way the writers try to execute the "star-crossed lovers" angle here comes across as more contrived than tragic to me (especially when compared to Buffyverse episodes like "I Will Remember You" or "Becoming"). Maybe if I had more of an attachment to the villains, I would be more invested in what was keeping them apart, but neither Connor nor Justine really excite me as characters in these last few episodes and Skip just appearing to Cordy so that she could ascend at this exact moment was kind of underwhelming as well. The Wesley/Lilah turn is an interesting wrinkle, though.

Second_Strike

As somebody who is actually more attached to Angel as a show than Buffy, I have to say, this is probably one of the weaker finale episodes between both shows. Honestly on the first watch through of the back half of season 3, I was basically only watching to see what happened to Wesley. A lot of people hate on season 4, and I'll throw my two cents in by saying I think that it is super uneven. There are bad episodes but there are also really good episodes, and the show never gets to a point where it isn't worth continuing.

Anouar

I respect your opnion shan but i like the story more in angel. in buffy it's to dragged out for me, Season 2, 4, and 5 from Angel are my favourite seasons, buffy is to childish for me except season 6, Angel has a certain serious mature vibe in the show that i dont have with buffy.

Wes sure has gotten dark. Does this mean no Buffyverse or AOS next week? :(

Angel sank to the bottom of the ocean... ... And so did your ships. :(

Buffyverse minus Whedon = TVD

Anonymous

Hmm, well you didn't really explain why you were disappointed in the reaction. I assume it's related to Cordelia, but I'm not entirely clear. I don't watch TVD, but I certainly hope it's not due to that. Angel would have done it first after all.

Bellatronics

Vampire Diaries COPIED!!!! this story!! The bloody cheek!!!! ( though I have heard of them nicking other stuff from Buffy& Angel verse before, cannot remember what now, so I should be so surprised. Still, this is a bit too much of an obvious copying). First time around, I found this quite a cliff hanger. Angel being sent to the bottom of the ocean and no-one knowing where he is. Course, I hadn’t seen a similar story before had I, this being the first time it was done…. :) I found Cordelia ascending to be some higher being really weird and off though, and hated it, of course. Don’t want her separated from Angel and the team. JUST as the two of them stop being dense and realise they love each other. Hmmpf. And why no goodbyes allowed?? No-one will know where she’s gone. Feels like very bad contrived writing. So yeah, I found the whole storyline of Connor being brought up to be turned against his dad really tragic, and quite shocked on first watch what he did to Angel. Was quite horrified at the thought of what an awful ordeal it would be if he were never found and stuck at the the bottom of the ocean forever, which is obviously what Connor intends. Messed up. Though , I’m pretty sure I knew there was another season coming, so was more “How the hell they gonna find him??” And it seems like there’s just Gunn & Fred left to do it. But it doesn’t stand up to re-watches for me. Definitely lacks the sense of drama I remember, falls a bit flat. I think it’s partly the actual scene where Connor & Justine dump Angel in the ocean - falls a bit flat. The acting? And script, and directing. And the scene with Cordy & Skip feels off and also flat and anti-climatic. It doesn’t compare well to the end of season 6 of Buffy, which I can watch over and over and still holds all the drama and emotion. Still makes me cry. [ Willow crying and being held by Xander on Kingman’s Bluff, letting out her grief :’( ] I think this is only the 3rd time I’ve watched this Angel episode. I’m pretty sure I’ve only watched the whole thing through twice, was just starting another re-watch when Shan started her Buffy reactions, so put it off and waited for her to get to Angel to do it. [ I have a favourite season though, that I’ve watched about 5/6 times - not saying!] Hmm, it is much easier to write a comment on Angel though, without all the painful emotional stuff, and traumatising things of Buffy. Looking forward to your thoughts on Buffy s6 and Angel s3 Shan!

I feel sorry for Groo. It's sad that he left. He seems to have grown used to this new dimension (for him anyway). So maybe he'll be okay.

Anonymous

Loved how you said 'Joss loves to ruin your 'ships'' while Conner and Angel are on a boat. Everything is suppose to be off in this episode...coz spoilers. And the cliff hanger were they fell off the cliff...and then went deeper.

Anonymous

For me, this was the absolute worst episode of Angel, it was pretty much everything I hated about season 3 condensed into 1 episode. I loved Cangel’s big brother/little sister relationship in season 1&2, loved it and could’ve even shipped it then...but it is just soooo forced in season 3, from everyone and their mother insisting that they’re in love and meant to be together, all that kyerumption garbage. There’s a reason Show, Don’t Tell is like the number 1 rule when it comes to good writing. Cordelia slowly became completely unrecognizable (and not just because of the horrible hair!) from the character I loved since Btvs, turning into Saint Glowworm Mother Teresa and Angel started acting like a bumbling, petty, jealous, immature teenage boy around her, it’s almost excruciating to watch him act like that. Just blergh to all of it. Groo deserved so much better, he’s so pure. I almost wish he’d found his way to Sunnydale and hooked up with Buffy because really after all she’s been through, she deserves somebody who’d treat her like an actual princess, plus he could help out on the demon fighting front. But then again, there’s the Angel issue. I liked Connor so much better when he was a baby and Justine, ugh, the less said about her the better. Oh well, onto season 4 which apparently controversially is one of my favorites and, imo, has some of the best episodes of the show. For me, it’s definitely the most entertaining season and has the most rewatch value.

It does remind of the vampire diaries.

Nancy Nicolai

I know this episode isn't a favorite of a lot of ppl ,it really brings out a lot of strong emotional responses and they mostly site poor writing but I believe that's exactly the kind of thing that proves its actually really good writing to bring out such differing strong emotional reactions bc isn't that what good writing is supposed to do make us cry or make us mad or any kind of emotional response means great writing but we don't have to agree we just have to feel!!!💜👍😊

BaoziBang

I can't wait for your Reaction to. Season 4. It is probably my least favorite Season but has (especially later on) some of my Fav episodes of the whole Buffy Verse

Anonymous

I was never a fan of Season 3. To be honest, I felt the entire series got a bit convoluted throughout Season 3 and well into Season 4. That being said, Season 4 has a few surprises that are entertaining enough to make up for it. Also, it's a great setup for Season 5, which I can't wait for you to get to. I've always believed that, although Buffy was a better OVERALL series, Season 5 of Angel - in particular the finale - was the best SINGLE season of either show. Looking forward to Season 4 reactions!

cil

Season 3 is such an uneven season. The first half with Darla’s pregnancy, Holtz coming back, the father will kill the son prophecy and Wes’ character downfall were good storylines and damn good television. Once Connor and Holtz return from the hell deminsion the season takes a weird shift.

Anonymous

Yeah, I thought Season 5 for both shows were their best seasons.

Bisibia

This is the worst part of the Angel series storyline imo. You're totally right... up against Dark Willow, this is pretty weak. But then again, almost everything is kinda weak compared to that.

Einar Sigurðsson

Lilah goes after Wes because if he could be recruited, he would be a big asset to Wolfram and Hart

Richard Lucas

I feel like Cordelia could only ascend when she had something great that she could sacrifice, her true love for Angel, which she had just discovered, the same way that Angel had to sacrifice his humanity to turn back time 24-hours in season one. That’s why the timing of her ascension was when it was. She had to willingly sacrifice her love, that’s why she had to say yes, it couldn’t just happen.

Richard Lucas

Love Groo. I will have to see if the actor has done anything else besides Angel. I was blown away when I looked up Danny Strong who plays Jonathan on Buffy.
