Not sure if you remember, but John Noble (Denethor, Boromir and Faramir’s father), was a guest star on Legends of Tomorrow as the voice of Mallus, and as himself on the set of Return of the King so they could trick Nora into expelling Mallus from her

The Return of the very long comments. Yes 4 hours is long for a movie, but as I did with the other movies, I watch this movie 3 times the day it was released at the theater. Now the theater cut was only 3 ½ hours long so I only sat in the theater for 10 ½ hours that day. I had a Lord of the Ring Marathon weekend, where I watch all 3 extended cuts on Saturday. Then on Sunday did it again but with commentary audio on. I see you have some new pops on the shelf behind you. Yeah, there did seem to be a bit of a homosexual impression given between Smeagol and Deagol. That impression wasn’t given in the book. So it seems that black magic 8-ball of Saruman’s got ahold of Pippin. He became obsessed with it. In this place that thing is kind of like a cell phone. But Sauron got one, he used it to corrupt the other ones. Sad Merry and Pippin getting separated. They have been together their whole lives, and now they get separated at a time when either one could be killed. Its my sound weird but one of my favorite scenes in the movie is the lighting of the signal fires. I don’t know why, it just seemed so majestic. It’s also kewl in that it shows how signal fires where used for centuries to call for help across hundreds of miles in a matter of minutes. So you think Eomer with his long blonde hair and beard is more attractive than Billy Butcher’s short dark hair with black beard? lol I’m not sure why the green ghosties faked Aragorn out, acting like they weren’t going to help, then helping. I never liked the scene with Denethor eating like a pig while Pippin sang and his men died. It’s gross. Gandalf smacking Denethor in the face with his staff was funny. That dude had completely lost it. I agree the green ghosties taking out the army at Gondor were kind of cheating. They didn’t fight in Gondor in the books. Something that isn't mentioned in the movie is that is was Merry's stabbing the Witch King in the back of the knee that made it vulnerable to being killed by Eowyn. So it was a team effort. It was stabbing the Witch King that made both Eowyn and Merry sick. It's more obvious with Merry as you see the flash of the WK protective spell breaking and Merry scream in pain as he stabbed him. Yeah, everybody loves the scene with Sam “I can carry you!”. It really gets you in the feels. I really love how Aragorn says to the Hobbits, “You bow to no one.” And everyone bows to them. You not wrong, the story was written to tell multiple stories that come together than separate only to all come together again at the end. I really do love these movies, they do not hold a candle to the books. The movie made changes to certain characters that I feel hurt them in the portrayal. Chief of these are Faramir, Frodo, and to some degree Denethor. Also the men of Gondor shown to be much more regal and noble in the books. Where here more emphasis is placed on Rohan. Many great characters are omitted but I get that there is a limit on what you can do with a movie, even a 12-hour movie. Things that were done really well is the portray of the lands and cities. The battle scenes are amazing. I said in the Two Tower comments there was only one battle Scene I have ever scene that tops the battle at Helms Deep and it was the battle in this movie at Minus Tirith. They were great at paying homage to specific scenes and lines from the books. They retained the emotions of the book perfectly.
