People reported some issues with the built-in gamepad not working fully in certain streaming applications.

This has been resolved now by adding a shoulder button axis translator into the built-in gamepad's XBOX mapping layout.

On top of that the built-in gamepad is now reported as external, which allows it to work properly within GeForce Now!

How to install: Unpack the attached files using 7zip and follow the included instructions found inside README.txt.

Things to note when updating from a previous build: If you previously had Google Apps installed, please make sure you re-install them after the update to avoid crashes!

For those needing the Google Play Store: Reboot into TWRP and install the latest OpenGapps ARM64 8.1 Pico bundle! (I suggest you finish the first-time setup with WiFi disabled... things move so much faster if you do!)

For those needing root: Magisk is included out of box and only needs to be activated on first boot. A WiFi connection is required for the initial Magisk activation.

Changelog

  • XBOX gamepad layout now maps L2/R2 to LTRIGGER/RTRIGGER (which fixes them in XBOX Game Pass)
  • Nintendo gamepad layout still uses L2/R2 digital buttons (because Drastic has issues detecting analog triggers)
  • The built-in gamepad is now reported as external (which enables GeForce Now to use it)

So I am trying to install this release right now. It looks like my PC does not pick up my 552 when it is hooked up via USB and in the recovery menu that i access with the button combination. Thus i am unable to successfully run your script

I'm having a lot of problems with google apps. When installing the OpenGapps package, it was showing the error "70". Googling, I found that this was due to the system partition, which was too small. I opened the .zip file and deleted some apps, such as youtube and email, in order to reduce the .zip file's size. That way, I managed to install, but now no google file works, and it keeps giving errors like "google is continually failing". Do you know how I can solve this?

And Xbox game pass ? Running smoothly ? This update is opening up a world of possibilities lol amazing work dude 👍🏻 If you sign up for ge force or Xbox pass..would you do it under a pc or console ? What’s the 552 considered?

Anybody know what that retroarch plus is in the play store ? It says it only runs on android 8.0 so I figured it was worth a shot . I’m assuming it’s better somehow than the normal retroarch?

blackseraph

It uses different cores, but the best version you can install is the "regular one" from their website.

hi, great progress on all of these new devices!! are you planning any updates to the xd+ anytime soon? thanks!

blackseraph

It's next on my to-do list actually. I started work on an update for it right when the RG552 arrived on my doorstep. It will also be the first device on the roster to get Android 12 so there's that. :)

Thanks for the update!

blackseraph

No problem. It's not like I'm trying to make a big secret out of these things.

Does this latest version have the sim card fix and button mapper like the beta 4 version

Michael Snipes

How do you install both those maskroms to the rg552, or do you just install one, if so which one

Michael Snipes

How do you install the Gapps pico version once completed

blackseraph

There's only one package. The reason it's split into multiple files is because of a Patreon file size limitation. Just download all parts and then extract the lowest numbered one with 7zip. It will extract all split files at once.

blackseraph

By copying the Gapps zip onto your device, rebooting into the recovery (Magisk -> Reboot to Recovery) and installing it there.

Michael Snipes

When it downloaded maskrom it downloaded them into 2 parts though, would i have to put both into a folder and open with 7zip

blackseraph

It's a pre-installed app you will find on your device after you installed the new firmware. It allows you to install additional modules, give root access to apps and most importantly (in your case) rebooting into recovery so you can install your Google Apps.

Michael Snipes

So i need to use 7zip and unzip them both into the same folder correct

Michael Snipes

How do i install andriod onto my device, which is the easy way

blackseraph

Unpack the MaskROM bundle and then open the included README.txt file. It contains exact instructions.

I appreciate all the time you take to develop this firmware, but just as a question, are there any importat changes that worth to update from Beta4 to Beta5? i'm not a user of those platforms so I'm not sure if I should update.

blackseraph

I would update either way. It only takes a minute and you will be up to date. The changes to the XBOX gamepad layout have an effect on emulators and games as well as they now report the proper XBOX analog trigger values, so if any of your games previously had broken trigger buttons, they should now work properly.

Hello, thank you for the good work! This have nearly fixed my Problem with my shadow.tech Shadow PC. But the Controller Analog Stick also recognised there as some Keybord/Mouse input, the Shortmenu Button appears.

blackseraph

I'm sorry but without access to a Shadow subscription there isn't much I can do to pinpoint this. And from what I've read the waiting times for a new subscriber are immense.

Anonymous

Thank you! Nah, i think your read the good old days about Shadow. At the moment it takes only a couple of days. But i think it is a hardware specific, because on my GPD XP it is fine. Maybe about the "native" XBOX Controller. So for me its fine on the RG552, i use Steam Link trough Shadow.

Cool! If you want a Screenshot or something, dont hesitate to ask me.

How do i copy gapps to my device i done install magisk and not sure where to copy the gapps or going into twrp

blackseraph

You just plug up your device to a PC while it's running and copy the OpenGapps ZIP you downloaded over. Then you reboot into TWRP by unplugging all cables from your RG552 and holding down the F button while power-cycling it by long pressing the power button. From there hit Install in the TWRP menu and select your OpenGapps ZIP file.
