This build fixes a bunch of Unity-based games and disables adoptable storage (for now).

Newcomers: Please refer to the Beta #1 post for a visual installation guide or follow the included README.txt in the SPFlash package to-the-letter.

Existing users: Reboot into the recovery and install the TWRP package as usual to upgrade. (For same Android version upgrades.)

For those needing Google Apps: Please stick to NikGapps-arm64-11 Google Apps for now. MindTheGapps doesn't seem to play nice with A-only partition devices like our XD+, and OpenGapps doesn't provide Android 11 bundles yet!

For convenience's sake I've attached a copy of the latest (at the time of writing) compatible NikGapps-core bundle to this post. Should you need more Google Apps than the Play Store though, or simply wish to pay respect to the NikGapps team, feel free to give the official NikGapps website a visit! (They accept donations!)

For those needing root: Magisk is currently unsupported. Superuser will work though!

Changelog

  • Force-disabled the allowBackup flag (which fixes a bunch of Unity SDK based games)
  • Disabled adoptable storage (as it was broken anyway)

Known issues

  • Audio plays through the device speakers / wired headphones while connected via HDMI
  • CTS certification doesn't work yet (aka. Netflix won't work without sideloading)
  • The recent application screen sometimes refuses to rotate landscape on fresh installs (if this happens, long-press on an empty spot on your homescreen, open "Home settings" and exit back to the homescreen right after)
  • Magisk isn't supported yet (Superuser will work though)
  • The Vulkan driver is buggy (use OpenGLES 3 if possible)

In order to update the build, i do not need to flash gapps again, right?

Anonymous

Probably not, but just flash it if unsure.

blackseraph

I haven't checked yet if NikGapps supports addon.d restoration, but yes, it's always a good idea to reflash those after an update.

Weird issue after this update. When I have headphones plugged in, the sound plays in both the headphones and the external speakers. When I have nothing plugged in, no sound plays at all. Spotify recognizes this as "wired headphones," even though nothing's plugged in. Any idea what could be going on there?

Not been following for a while and just discovered what's been happening. Do I need flash earlier betas or can go straight with latest build?

GPD should hire you to make their gaming devices software.

blackseraph

I wish I could but as long as GPD maintains their sales volume first mentality I'll never be part of their early access group. Ensuring your devices work right doesn't improve the sales volume, and thus I automatically move to the bottom of their priority list.

Just wanted to say that escapist's 2 doesn't work for me, don't know if it works for any one else.

I formated my sd card after updating the build, but Now i am unable to transfer my games to It.

blackseraph

That's what adoptable storage did. But it broke a bunch of games & apps (when moved to "external storage"). Using portable storage there is no direct way to do this. I hope to find the source of the bug that forced me to remove the feature and re-introduce it in a future update but until then all you can do is use external storage for holding data like ROMs, movies, music, etc.

the TWRP version keeps asking for a password. I've downloaded it multiple times on muliple devices just to see if it was on my end.

blackseraph

Make sure all parts are in the same folder then unpack the first part with 7zip. You'll end up with a single ZIP that you can flash in TWRP. The files are split because the firmware is too big to upload in a single file on Patreon.

Crosshairs get stuck in Duo Shock 4 mode

i cant download the file it says archive corrupt when using WinRAR. I used 7zip but that did not work. any suggestions

Is there a way to format sd as internal storage? I don't see that option 😕

blackseraph

Not at the moment. The drivers we (are forced to) use have issues with obb-storage when using MicroSD cards as internal storage, which breaks games. Because of this the feature was temporarily deactivated until I find a way to remedy this.

Anonymous

Do u have a suggestion on how to play android games without worrying about storage?? BTW I love your work

blackseraph

By keeping big files that don't need to be on the internal storage on the external one. ROM collections, movies, music, etc. As for apps, some third party methods for re-routing data to the external storage still work, but require odd tricks like root, ext4 formatted MicroSD cards and so on... So I generally discourage regular end-users from attempting that. But if you're dead set and want to roll with such a setup then there really is nothing stopping you from doing it. Google App2SD and you'll find plenty options of doing so without having to resort to the buggy / broken adoptable storage function.

I'm willing to root the os but tried superSu but it not working 😕 I really want it is there a superuser zip i can flash? So I can use the root app

blackseraph

Just install the Superuser APK that's linked in the release post. You'll have root access afterwards.

Anonymous

What I meant to say is that I am not rooted at all I the link posted is for users already rooted but im not I have already tried to flash it with superSu.zip but it failed

blackseraph

You're making this too complicated. All you have to do is install that APK after you installed the ROM. It is that simple. After the app is installed and you opened it at least once it will bring up the usual root permission popup whenever an app requests root permission.

Anonymous

Sorry for being difficult 😞 I give up on rooting the os but I slow to understand so I don't want to make you mad

blackseraph

You don't make me mad. But here we go one last time, hoping you will understand it better if I show you the whole picture. If you want a rooted OS you would... 1. Install the ROM (either via SPFlash or TWRP) 2. Install the NikGapps core bundle via TWRP (if you want or need Google Apps) 3. Boot into the ROM and set it up the way you like 4. Download the linked Superuser APK from the release post of the ROM 5. Install the downloaded APK Now, every time an app wants root permissions a dialog will pop up asking whether you want to grant the permission or not. There is no SuperSU or root related ZIP you need to flash. The ROM comes pre-rooted but it remains disabled until you install that APK.

Ok I installed the superuserapp and nikgapps and did it thank you for the detailed instructions 😊
