Country that is!

Despite Portugal having close ties with England since 1347 when Philippa of Lancaster married King John I of Portugal - and despite having the odd glass of port - I have never before made it here before.  I can tell I have been missing out!!

So far it looks really interesting- lots of faded splendour- the buildings in the area I am definitely need some restoration but they are oh so beautiful!  This is Porto where the nation began in 1097 when Henry a knight from Burgundy went to fight the Moors who has been on the Iberian peninsula since 711.  Portugal was named as it was ‘The land of the port’ .  More pics to follow tomorrow.
