I have been trying for some months now to get hold of a Brugmansia plant in frosty pink - which has a distinctive lime green and light pink colouring - like in the final photo. They are extremely beautiful and I think will really suit the theme of the house and the look for the garden.

One horticultural company I spoke with said they couldn't locate any in Spain, so were going to try and source them from Holland but I've heard nothing since. So I may have found another way.

I have been lucky enough to be given some cuttings from two Brugmansias, one exactly the colour I'm looking for and another in yellow, which placed in the right part of the garden could add nice contrast. You can see them here in water sitting on Mycorrhiza root grow - I know, it's ironic that I have just put a type of fungus in the house! But it is considered very effective at encouraging roots to grow - and hopefully it's only a temporary guest!

You can see also that I cut off all the large leaves and any flowers / buds so as to divert the plant's energy from growing these, instead to making new roots. I have about four / five of each colour, placed in a warm sunny spot (even the top of this coffee machine is heated) to encourage the magic to take place.

Apparently Brugmansia is a vigorous growing plant so I am hopeful that maybe one or two will survive this process. Apparently it takes a few weeks. I will let you know what happens!

Oh yes, and that large stem you can see is a bit of an unlikely experiment, where I also took a cutting of a Bird of Paradise plant, just on the off chance it works which I really don't expect it will. I shall keep you posted! By the way, I realise Brugmansia is poisonous but fortunately, our pets are not at all interested in going into, besides eating, the plants and I'll be letting the children know not to touch!

If this does work, then I'll have found a super economical and exciting way to propagate plants. The lemon tree is next. :-)
