October 3rd - a worrying mess (Patreon)

Hi everyone.  Today has been a happy day with everyone in high spirits.  I hope yours has been too.   

Here the high spirits have been despite the visit from Steve the electrician who came over to try and get the chandelier going.  It seems this won't be happening any time soon  as the entire junction box and wiring behind the walls in the dining room has blown with the wiring burnt out.  

It is tricky to sort the electrics out while we are still in the house so we are working out if we can move out for a week or two while Steve gets to work. That way he can switch off the electrics at the mains .  With safety in mind much of it is too far gone now to wait 2 years, so without damaging the historic fabric we need to do what we can now.  Camilla and I are working out a plan tonight as she has been chatting this through with Steve today while we have been working.

This picture shows the junction box in the dining room (!!) - it is quite horrifying to see the old wiring done so badly like this - it really is an alarming mess.  BUT we will get is sorted if we put our thinking caps on.  One day we will see beautiful new wires I am sure!
