Yeeeeah. They absolutely butchered the pacing for Skypeia in the anime, to be sure. That's just FACT. No-name characters (as well as named characters who we are given no reason to have any stake in, such as Wyper) are given waaaaay too much time, which detracts from the bits of *good* writing given to characters like Conis, Aisa, and Gan Fall by diluting the hell out of everything. Filler dilutes the contents of a story, and it's the anime's greatest crime. Luckily, no arc does this worse than Skypeia. There are absolutely some long arcs later that have a serious chunk of filler, even beyond that, but none are *worse*, at least-- most end up being things that are eminently skippable, like start-of-episode recap, at least. Which is still *annoying*, but at least *watchable*. Plus, there tend to at least be interesting things going on, in later arcs-- most only get about as bad as Alabasta (if excluding Alabasta's filler), where there's *some* sense of "this took so much time," but there's at least interesting stuff good character focus going on for most of the while. Hang in there! You've only got 8 episodes left until this arc is over and done with! Then there's the EXTREMELY fun and VERY short G-8 arc (anime only, but veeeeery fun character focus that makes it an all-but-unanimous MUST WATCH), and then... the very goofy and eminently skippable Long Ring Long Land arc that, while manga canon, is absolutely a filler arc, and suuuuper skippable (but totally fine if you're up for a silly arc). Aaand after that, we get to start in on arguably the best part of One Piece. The hype is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal!! So, you're through the worst of it! Glad to see you're still having fun with One Piece, despite how frustrating the pacing was for Skypeia-- it's unfortunately VERY common to see people dropping OP during this arc, for exactly the same reasons as you've stated (albeit few have your level of media literacy to understand *why* skypeia feels so sloooooooooooooooow). But yeah. The criticism is ABSOLUTELY deserved. Toei REALLY dropped the ball when it comes to pacing, which is why massive fan projects like "One Pace," which more or less aims to cut out all the filler, have become such a big deal-- and also why the remake anime is so hyyyyyyyyype!

I would argue that Long Ring Long Land shouldn't be skipped, for potentially spoiler reasons, but you can definitely skip the extended parts of it.
