The ending is a genius mix of 1. Starship Troopers, whats pretty funny and 2. The Kaguya Legend, the Prinzess thats going to the moon and is not reacheble for her lover. etc

You recall that moon viewing episode in S1 where Shirogane and Kaguya talked about the legend of princess Kaguya? She had to leave to go to the moon but gave the man she loved an immortality potion. In the story the man burned it unwilling to exist in a world without his beloved, but Shirogane said if it were him he would drink it and one day bring the princess back, even if it took a thousand years. In this ending, Shirogane is holding the potion and shown drinking it, and lives all the way from the WW2 era he was in with Kaguya in the prior endings to the distant future where mankind has advanced enough to reach Kaguya and bring her back.

I love that they spent 3 seasons building up their own version of The Tale of Bamboo Cutter in the ending credits and then chose to make a damn Starship Troopers reference out of the climax...they have some really cool people at that studio.
