omg i was literally just refreshing the page looking for this 😭

JATLA

HxH vs Naruto what’s the better show?👀

HenryM

Milena doing the DiCaprio pointing meme lmao

space1999

Gon is single minded with his goals yeah but every time I see him pawning his Hunter License my brain explodes lol Love Zepile’s insight on Gon, intrigued by how relative his morals are The scenes of Gon and Killua using their Nen skills to game the system and make more money are too perfect. Togashi really fearless, making the world HE WANTS with scenes HE WANTS with characters playing with the rules that HE MADE. No editor swooping in to make the story more focused to appeal to the average viewer Killua even says “this isn’t important at all!” 😆

Anonymous

maybe the better show was the friends we made along the way!

JATLA

Yep, just seeing what people personally prefer there’s no right answer haha

space1999

I don’t wanna get into spoilers for either of them but I think they focus on a lot of different things with their worlds. Agree with @Merfhew that it’s subjective but I think it’s fun to compare elements of their writing Both stories set out to different things, Naruto is a bit more in line with classic Shonen and HxH is really focused on deconstructing Shonen tropes and creating a unique world wherein conflict isn’t decided solely by violence (talk no jutsu is there but usually comes after a big fight) There aren’t many genuinely important or impactful characters in Naruto who aren’t ninjas or fighters which limits the world a bit. I think most of the Naruto antagonists are also a little limited on the personality and motivations spectrum compared to HxH. In HxH we have antagonists who show a wider range of emotions, Togashi is fine with these characters looking pathetic or childish or throwing tantrums. I feel like in general with Naruto there is a big focus on “rule of cool” and characters are doing badass things and having epic showdowns. HxH does lots of short fights with anti-climaxes happening constantly or fights not even happening at all.

Merfhew

I guess that depends on what "better" means in this scenario. Better story? Better sales? Better name recognition? Better financial success? Better manga to anime adaptation? Better overall experience? I've only seen Naruto, so I can't compare it with HxH (yet), but I'm aware that Naruto both shines and sinks depending on the criteria.

Merfhew

Looks like I took your question too literally. My bad. From what I've seen of HxH, it's a fun show, but I haven't seen enough to say which I prefer.

JATLA

Yeah I just enjoy comparing shows too, and I agree with the lack of important non-ninja’s in naruto, but there’s also not too many impactful characters in HxH who don’t use Nen, so similar in that aspect. I do prefer HxH though FYI

JATLA

I’d watch a 200 episode show of Gon and Killia just chilling doing normal, day to day stuff😂

so the shirt untuck on Wing-san its because he's an enhancer and everytime he uses aura his power untucks the shirt from the pants, like the water test on the glass

Gon pawning his license is the most Gon thing I've ever seen. Gon basically took about a 100,000,000 Jenny loan and used his license as collateral. Had he actually sold it instead of pawning it, he would have been able to get billions instead of millions.

space1999

That’s gonna be my head cannon from now on cause it’s too perfect if it isn’t cannon

Moral relativism is definitely something you can relate to...

space1999

Agree for sure @Lil Don075, I honestly can’t walk down the street without people pointing this out about me

rubberkidney

which show you like more is a personal preference. whats the better show? is an objective question and an objective answer exists.

rubberkidney

pawn stars is misleading because everyone always wants to sell their item. when you go to a pawn shop you can also take out a loan against your property which the pawn shop holds onto while you make payments on the loan. when you finish paying back your loan you will get your item back, if you fail to pay for the item it becomes property of the pawn shop who can then sell the item. this entire loan process is known as 'pawning'

1:44 Kurapika facing 'Cholo', lmao. Latino Chrollo rolls up in a low rider with the Brigada Fantasma and says '¡Oye! Kurapika I hear you looking for los ojos escarlatas ese"

Merfhew

@matthew - I would disagree with the second part of your comment. As I mentioned above, you can view the "which is better" question from many different angles, but almost all of those angles are subjective. Not all, but most. And I'd argue that finding an answer to the objective angles (which has better sales + which has better financial success) is hard to do. You'd need to take numerous factors into account before reaching the correct answer.

that dude's name is Zepile, the 2 phantom troupe members are Machi and Nobunaga

HenryM

Waiting for that Hunter x Hunter/Mayans M.C crossover

The Dude's Rug

Pawn is a loan with an item as collateral. He didn't sell it.

space1999

I don’t think sales should come into play when discussing which two things are objectively better but I see your point @Merfhew @ matthew bailey I think it’s all about personal preference and what you’re looking for. If you want classic shonen with feel good moments and lots of strong action then Naruto is gonna have more of what you want. If you want a story that’s gonna play with genre and focus on it’s world and deconstructs tropes then HxH. That said I do feel like I’ve been able to draw a lot more friends and people online who don’t enjoy anime/manga into HxH than I would have if I tried to share Naruto with them. I think Naruto is aimed at a bit of a younger audience. It will often will explain the themes directly to the viewer and has more standard tropes. HxH feels more like a lite novel, no restrictions from the editors, Togashi making any and all decisions he wants to tell the kind of story he wants. A strong focus on narratively appealing subversive storytelling

Satotz (the exam instructor) did mention that a hunter license is both incredibly important and also a useless piece of paper. To a true hunter, it doesn't mean anything. Hunters are weird people. I swear, like half of them could be ascetic monks. edit: about Wing, I think he's just a messy guy. He's stoic and stern, but having a tucked out shirt just humanizes him as a bit as young, messy guy. For example, he punched his wall and broke it. He then covered the damage with a rug. You can see it in the show, he just hung a rug over the destroyed wall. That is peak single, young guy energy. https://i.redd.it/erfrlqlvdsj41.jpg

Shizuku and other abilities get information boxes at the end or beginning of the chapters in this arc. That is where Shizuku information from. We also get info on Hisoka, The boss, Machi, and I think Franklin(?). Forget who else.
