Hey everybody just wanted to give you an update about both Phantom Limb; Genius Loci, also Resin Of Earth and the public release of the timed exclusive games.

So, Phantom Limb :: Genius Loci has entered the time of development where basically all prototyping and conceptual work is through and I just have to put my head down and fill out the framework I’ve set up. Even if I have a good idea of what I want a game to contain there are always a ton of particulars that arise from the process of working on a game that need to be accounted for. I think sometimes this can cause some hesitancy in me, I can be working on the game but still feel somewhat unsure about the finer details. I have all of the elements but I don’t know how to arrange them in the way that they will finally be set. At some point I’ve done enough of the work where I can play the game in real life but also imagine the other part that almost all of those final details become clear and I get a “second wind” as it were. I think this may be true with my larger, less linear games especially, there is a moment where most things snap into place and I can see how things are supposed to be. I wish I was the type of developer who could plan everything out on paper first because that would be nice and tidy, but I am not, though I am trying to amend my ways.

Anyway, Phantom Limb :: Genius Loci will be coming to you soon, I really want to have it in your hands/download folders sometime around Halloween because that would be great timing. I am working to try and hit that deadline. Here is a little context-free look at one of the many things you might find in your exploration: Phantom Limb :: Genius Loci features mold. It's not weird/psychic mold, just regular mold in a very arrangement.

After Phantom Limb :: Genius Loci I will either be finishing Resin Of Earth or be putting in a good amount of work into Discover Our Bodies before going on to finish Resin Of Earth. I am also going to be putting THE MOON IS THE OCEAN’S BRAIN, Phantom Limb :: Genius Loci, and Resin Of Earth into a sort of frame-game which I am tentatively calling Idiot Vortices. The title is a reference to a Lovecraft poem, in the poem and here idiot is not so much used as a pejorative as it is a descriptor of both a kind of deprivation of insight, a pervasive confusion, but also a deprivation from reality as in, in the interior of oneself. Its from the collection of poems Fungi From Yuggoth which is also where the game The Well is inspired. Separated from its context I just think the phrase is pretty striking, also sort of funny, but maybe too funny/weird which is why I say I will use it tentatively. In the end I may end up calling it something like “Yames’ Games Volume 1” or some other more plain thing.

Anyway, more about the frame game : The frame game is less like a game and more like a small diorama or hub where you can launch the games but also explore around for extra fun bits of lore.

The set up of frame game is this:

You are driving on a wintry night with very low visibility. Soon you lose control of your car and it skitters out onto a frozen body of water and begins to sink through the ice. As you sink downward you begin to look around the interior of the car but you are no longer the only occupant: three dark figures are seated in the passenger seats. Looking at each figure’s swirling vortex of a body causes your attention to be drawn into another world (one of the three games) and away from your impending demise. As you complete each game, the environment around you will change further, leading to a climax that takes you beyond the threshold of death.

(Above is just a little mockup I've done.)

Hope you are all excited, I know I am, really can’t wait for you all to play Phantom Limb :: Genius Loci. As always thank you so much for your support, I really would not be able to do the work that I do without your patronage. Hope you all are doing well and having a suitably spooky spooky season.

Yours In Games,

Yames
