Hey everyone!

As you know, I took a short break in November (while pausing my Patreon). And during that time I went to Tokyo to relax & refuel my inspiration :)

I really think it’s a beautifull city and there is just so much to see and do!  Now, I won’t bore you with all my adventures there, but generally I’ve been visiting a lot of  art-galleries, comic-, toy- and game stores, and just walked around a lot in different parts of the city. Here are a few snapshots I took to give you an impression of the trip -but if you like to see more, then you can find some additional photo’s on discord.

Back to Space Rescue

So  since I’ve been back, I continued working on the backgrounds for the maintanence area of the ship. And this week I finished the first 3 backgrounds for this area.

Now my plan is to make 7 more backgrounds, so I can add the entire maintenance area to the next update. This will all be part part of  new story involving a rather ehh...spooky girl! So soon I’ll be sharing a bit more about her as well :)

Maintenance room basement

But first, here is what I made so far. Above you see an illustration that was previously prepared by Marlies, and from there on I refined it till what you see below (See bigger version as attachment).

Now below you see the room dived into screens; as you will actually see them in game.

And I turned these screens into gifs,  so you can get an idea of how my photoshop file is layered while I create these rooms.  I do this, so I can easily move around parts of the scene, or adjust their brightness- which all helps to find the best composition.

Now on the screen above, you can see 9 warning lights (which turn red whenever  a Helping -hand in the maintenance maze is disabled). And the lever on the wall opens the door, which leads to the maze. And if you do, you will also flood the basement with fog. It has no gameplay function, but I thought it would add something to the spooky vibe of this story :)

And on the next screen above, you can actually do quite a lot. There is a copymachine, washing machine and an elevator-shaft with a missing elevator-cart. Can you guess where you would need these machines for? :)

Now this third screen was actually only there, because you will see if you walk down the stairs from above. But I decided to detail it anyway so I could place the laundery basket there, as well as some other items. It's always good to have some extra room to hide things!

Next?

So, that it so far. Next I will be making the staircase that leads upwards to the main Hallways.  And for that I can reuse many parts from these illustrations. So, I'll share more on that soon  :)

Well, I hope you like it so far!

All the best,
Robin

Dacer

Those are some beautiful photographs. You definitely have an "artist's eye"! I like the maintenance room pics here very much as well. I've said before that a lot of your set designs for the Green Beetle remind me of the original set designs Ron Cobb did for the first "Alien" film (you can see some of those on Cobb's website). These here, though? I'm very much getting an Original Star Trek vibe off of your designs, although these have a spookier aspect, for sure! I look forward to seeing where it's all going. Thank you to you and Marlies for all your hard work!

CodePink

Thank you Dacer, I'm glad you like the photos :) It still took me 5 or 6 tries before getting the right shot. But I really wanted to capture Tokyo the best I could :) And I'm happy the rooms remind you of such great movies & series! I love those as well, so I'm glad you feel a connection there :) All the best! -Robin
