Patreon adding Sales Tax on July 1st (Patreon)

Hey everyone,

I wanted to make a post to let everyone know about some tax changes Patreon is implementing, and how they may (or may not) affect your pledge.

Most patrons will not be charged sales tax, and the ones who are will see very small amounts. Taxes range from 4-11% in the states, for example, depending on where you live (for example, my fellow Canadians will luckily not be charged sales tax, unless you live in Quebec). That means on a  $5 pledge you might be charged up to 55 cents in sales tax.

Due to Patreon's approach, each benefit is being viewed separately, and some benefits will actually not require you to pay taxes at all. I'm still learning more about this, and I'll update you guys ASAP - I’m working closely with Patreon to ensure I’m able to save you as much money as possible when it comes to sales tax - which is not something that’s possible with other platforms.

If you're in a location where sales tax is necessary, you will receive an e-mail from Patreon about the change, but I wanted to let you all know ahead of time.
