I think you’ll come to like ffmpeg. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes more useful and easier to use than a lot of paid GUI-based conversion tools.

Definitely take a look into the man page (either online or by typing "man ffmpeg" in your terminal), since that'll provide you with a lot more useful information than "ffmpeg --help" Another good option, if you end up not wanting to dick around with command lines, is Handbrake. It's not quite as powerful as ffmpeg since a lot of the design decisions in the GUI were made to help save users from themselves, but for basic-to-medium-complexity conversion it's pretty good. The best feature, IMO, is that you can configure it to watch a folder and automatically convert any video file placed into it using a user-defined template. So if you find an output preset you really like, conversion becomes a drag-and-drop affair.

I've seen Handbrake and eh, I feel like I'd rather learn to use FFMPEG. That folder feature sounds neat too, I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the tips.
