What a wonderful film! And I'm glad to have it seen with you, it's a great eternal message, and the comedic timing and tempo really surprised me as well. I knew the premise before, from reading Don Rosa's "The Duck Who Never Was" wherein Donald goes to the same revelation. It's fun to put the references together finally.

George and Simone: You HAVE to watch Casablanca! "It's A Wonderful Life" movie did get several Oscar nominations, but it received mixed reviews from critics and never came close to making money in the cinema. It became better known and loved once it made it to television years later, but its popularity REALLY took off in 1974 when a clerical error caused its copyright to lapse. It became so cheap to broadcast that it was on TV constantly at Christmas with some stations practically running it on a loop.

"Garlic eaters" refers to Italians, who were still considered a disrespected minority and not part of the larger White European identity (see also the Irish, Martini being helped to buy a house and own a bar was seen as pretty forward. George talked a lot about how much the message relates to today and it's interesting to say that the movie was almost pulled from theateres due to "communist indoctrination." As for George wanting a come up for Potter, in some scripts he apparently had a heart attack not long after Bailey gets saved but a combination of cutting from the emotional climax party and deciding it was a bit too blood thirsty for the times got it cut.

George, I know that you are a fan of QI, even though this is not a Stephen Fry series this will help you with the "woman Spinning coming down a hill..." QI » Series O » Episode 10 It is almost the first topic where Josh Widdicombe is helped out by Susan Calman and Sandi Totsvig to solve the same dilema as you, George: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8jf4rz

So, the Cop and the Cab Driver (first appearance approx 13:20) they are named Bert and Ernie... is this where the Muppets folk got "Bert and Ernie" from, they talk back and forth in the movie like Bert and Ernie do on the Muppets?...
