This week I meant to get some new animation done, but got focused on implementing the damage system.


I've tied into the damage system built into Unreal Engine, and have enabled the basic hit and knock back effects.  I looked at using ragdoll quite a bit, but couldn't get it to look right for the player.  As all npc/enemies/player now are based off the same class, for now they won't be using ragdoll effects.  However, this is something that I will keep adjusting and if I find a good solution, its a quick change over.

Knock back state in action:

Using Unreal's built in damage system will allow me to add different damage effects as I need them, so I can do different types of damage down the line.

I've also added in some more sound effects, this time general grunt sounds that a player or npc might make as they jump around, or get hit.


This next week, I'll focus on the promised animations, and getting the damage stuff really cleaned up, then maybe release another tiny demo build.

edit - Just a heads up, I'm taking the last week of December off.  As its both Christmas, my Birthday, and New Years.  There will be an update on the 23/24, but the next one after that won't be until 7th or so!
