Hey everyone,

I have Jun's update here for you guys. Ended up struggling a lot more than I'd like with this one thanks to insisting on using NVL mode (which is borderline broken on Ren'py) as well as having a lot of systems breaking in general. The amount of time I spent on bugfixing was insane. It took me over two weeks just to get the NVL segment to work right.

Changelog:

  • Days 34 and 35 for Jun
  • The Haruki CG from the previous update has been finished

Since I've been dealing with a lot more programming errors as of late (and I really do mean a LOT), don't hesitate to let me know about any errors or crashes you guys find.

Too real on conveying the experience of numbness.. ;-; Jun really do be poggers as they say And I really like the way the finished Haruki cg was done! Only encountered the usual incompatible old save issue but had no bug encounters otherwise. I hope future updates aren't as difficult for you as this one was for the sake of your own sanity <3

what dies NVL mean? Does it have to do with the long, silent section of third person narration?

I know nothing about this programming stuff but the struggle with NVL was worth it, it hit a lot harder than if it was done using Ren'py's default text box

I also hope that. I definitely took some creative liberties with trying to portray dissociation and the ensuing numbness that can come with it — after all, it's a difficult feeling to translate into narration. The NVL + 3rd person narration was certainly a useful tool for it, but it definitely made this update even more of a hassle to write.

Yes. Ren'py has two built-in modes. ADV mode is the kind of narration users are used to seeing, where there is a single text/message box at the bottom of the screen that shows one message at a time. NVL, on the other hand, is the mode that has a textbox covering the whole screen that can show multiple messages at a time. ADV tends to be preferred as it is generally used for less wordy novels or ones where the writing is more casual/informal. NVL (as is the namesake "novel" mode) tends to be written in a more serious manner. However, NVL mode is very clunky in Ren'py. It doesn't work well, requires manual clearing of the screen every X messages, etc. Because of that, it severely slows down workflow, as any change in a single line somewhere back in the code means you have to play through the whole thing again to make sure none of the textboxes are now broken.

Haven't been able to get to this update yet but from what the comments are saying it's bound to be a doozy to read through Also if you're still doing the patron-exclusive short stories I'd love to be a fly on the wall for Keisuke's talk with Shoichi after the hospital scene

Ooof....that one hit hard.

While it must have been hard to work with - The tone shift in this section is fantastic. The occasional mismatch of 1st and 3rd person as we speak with Jun is flawless. Your ability to write up until this point kept me immersed, so to be suddenly dragged away as just a "person behind a screen" really hit home for me.

What was that...you did it again with the emotional roller coaster. I was so giddy happy after day 33 and then down right Panic in day 34 just calling 4 Jun to come and help... Gosh i missed this VN I havent been able to go thru the updates but now im gonna go thru with all of them, so Shoichi its now time for me and you to confront your dad.

Shioichi is next on the list, correct? Looking back I see 2 from haruki and 1 for keisuke so I’m hopeful!
