Ah man, I'm finally writing my first devlog in 2021.
It feels nice

Anyways hello, It’s sprrigs here, everyone's favorite endangered  Ethiopian wolf. I hope your morning,afternoon, or night is going well,  and I hope your staying safe.

So it’s time for me personally to do a devlog, sorry about all the  missed ones, I’ve been sick for a while and wasn’t able to do anything  really. In the meantime both Sephra and vero have done one for me.


In fact, let's talk about them and me for today’s first devlog point.
The way we work is that Sephra’s an animator, while I do all the talking, and then me and Vero both toss around the coding.
We all came to decide that that process is a bit of a clusterfuck, so  starting a few days ago, I won't be a large part of the coding scene for  predation. Instead Vero will be our singular coder. I’ll chip in when  needed tho.

We decided to do this for a couple of small reasons and a big one, The  small reasons are things like how vero has proper experience and  training while I have none, and we didn't want to bicker over what's the  best way to do things.

The biggest reason tho is that besides Sephra, I have all the things  needed to do artwork. So I'll actually be sliding over to that scene  more, instead of coding.

Now I'm sure you're curious what this means for you.
WELL hopefully it means we can get predation updates out faster. Our  main bottleneck was the fact that we only had one artist as a whole,  which when you have a game as crazy and detail heavy as predation, it  increases the production time by a massive amount.
We hope that by me doing most of the static objects, and sephra doing  all the animations. We will be able to get out these updates with more  speed.

I think that's all for that topic.

Before I leave I'll detail a few of the things in the works.

I’m currently working on tuning up level one.
It was too short, I asked the discord what they thought and even they agreed.
This actually leads into the next big point.
I know sephra mentioned this a few weeks ago, however I’ll reiterate it.
The feel of predation will be changing with this coming update.

WE originally wanted to have a platforming combat game, with great animations and plenty of fun.
However when we talked about adding new thing and where to go from  there, we heard from a lot of people that they didn’t think the combat  platforming worked. So we decided to spin around.

Coming up, predation won't lean super heavy into platforming.
It’ll still exist, however predation is gonna be more about traps, simple puzzles, and combat.

We hope we can get this to work, We all have put in a large amount of  effort into getting it right. However to nail this feeling we started  brainstorming.

So besides a general change to the level, the next updates gonna have the following

A new movement system
A new combat system
A new janus basic enemy(No animations)
A new AI
A complete revamp of level 1
A brand new tutorial/intro
Traps such as the door trap and the tesla trap
Puzzles that are time based, and door puzzles (and more)

Already that’s a lot. That's everything that we are gonna stuff into the next update.

However we also have in the works
We don’t know if these will make it into the new update. So take these with a grain of salt

A tuneup/revamp of ambers animations
Level 2 AKA the sewers
The enemy’s for level two
New puzzles and traps
A saving and/or checkpoint system
Saferooms
Possibly a reworked lust mechanic
And a few more cool nick nacks


I knew I just threw a whole lot at you, but we hope to get this all done  as quick as we can. You’ll be able to see all of our progress in the  discord channels



Soon we will also be giving our new bug tester roll a go.

I’ll be putting out the first one within the month, where i’ll get opinions on the new level one
