As promised (if you follow our official Twitter, anyway), I'm publishing the Work In Progress of this massive User Interface update for you special supporters of Trap Quest to try out, if you like.

EDIT 1st March 1pm GMT: The file below was updated to fix a couple of glaring issues at the start. If you've already downloaded it, please download it again.

EDIT 1st March 8pm GMT: The file below was updated again - two more serious issues were found; firstly, nothing worked properly if your GUI settings weren't the same as ours, and secondly, outfits that didn't go down to the crotch were causing big shadowy graphical anomalies in the character window.

Here's the download link.

There is no new content in this buid, just the new UI, which once it is polished, will be the only UI. (It's not practical to maintain both UI codebases.)

If you do decide to check this out, you'll very quickly see that it still needs a lot of polishing - the NPCs don't have coloured borders telling you their relationship to you, it takes an extra mouse click to kick (very annoying!), the new icon set by Berri is only half complete, and so on.

(There's also currently some fucky stuff going on before time moves forward for the first time - please do something at least once before playing around with the new UI!)

But what does exist so far, I'm very proud of.

Here's a by no means exhaustive list of the things I'm most happy about:

* Lag improvements - overall it just takes less time to render the graphical area.
* Aesthetic improvements - there's an actual colour scheme, and rounded corners to a lot of UI elements.
* Larger images - most things are now larger on your screen, allowing you to further appreciate their beauty.
* Less clutter thanks to the location area having pages, and Inventory menu tabs - tab buttons that work even when you can't type because the game is waiting for you to press a certain key!
* Expanding button menus - these aren't perfect yet, and 4 buttons as the default level 1 expansion might be too few, but the overall concept is working great.
* Icons on the character window - communicating the most important information to you at all times, even with the clothing inventory hidden inside a menu!
* Temporary clothing visibility (displaced, unzipped, wet, ripped) simulated in the clothing window using 50% opacity over certain areas.
* Clickable character window! You can now click on your clothing items in the character window, so you'll need to open the clothing inventory menu even less than you'd expect.

Anyway, if you do give it a go, feel free to comment below with your first impressions, with the understanding that it's still a Work In Progress. Let me know which parts of using it are the most annoying, and then I can focus on fixing those.

Thanks so much for your patience, this is a huge overhaul and is taking ages, but I hope that you agree that it'll be worth it!

Love from Aika

P.S. in WinGit, to set your text window to match the GUI's colour scheme, do the following in Git > Options:
Text colour should be pure white (Red, Green and Blue all 255)
Background should be dark grey (Red 33, Green 31 and Blue 35).

not me

page over for items on the ground doesn't work. no drop down menus working, I have to type everything to work. no way to access inventory and use items efficiently. the menus being broken like this makes the game almost unplayable. shame to even post it in this state.

trapquest

Really? That's concerning to hear. It's all working at our end, but is clearly more unstable than we realised. When did you download the file? Is this the one from last night or this morning? And is there anything else you can tell me about your setup? Any nonstandard settings, or nonstandard interpreter? Can you try moving the game to a folder where you don't have a pre-existing settings file and seeing if that fixes things?

duck with a gun

i have some problem with some of the clothes. some of them show up as giant black box. is this a problem with the build or is my file corrupted ?

trapquest

Problem with the build 240229. Fixed in the new link, which is the file dated 240301.
