Two Questions and a Proud Parent (Patreon)

Oh hi! Two questions for you (and subsequently for myself). 

What would you be doing right now if it wasn’t for C-word?

Not to dwell too much on things we cannot change, but…. This week, I was supposed to be on a video shoot with Adam Savage for a project about space. And then I was supposed to be in Sweden, with my 6-week-old nephew. Yes, I’ve become an aunt!!! For the first time! It’s very exciting. Would be more exciting if I wasn’t 5,354 miles away, but I’ll settle for baby conference calls for now.

Now to the more important question….

What would you NOT be doing if it wasn’t for C-word?

Every situation, no matter how shitty, is bound to have some perks. It’s like the side of fries that comes with your soggy burger order. I call it:

ENJOY ALL THE PERKS, EVERYDAY, EVERYWHERE
Abbreviated to E.A.T.P.E.E.

For example: I used to have a hard time finding parking spots. Now I just put on a blindfold, throw a rock, and park wherever it lands. 

That weird flour that I’ve had in my kitchen cupboard for years? I finally baked it into something somewhat edible.

My attempt at Swedish hard bread, or knäckebröd as we call it.

And not to brag or anything, but I think I actually look better with a face mask than without?

But the biggest perk of them all is that I have gotten more time in the workshop than ever before. Usually building is a weird staccato for me, chopped up between travel and meetings. Since the quarantine started, I have gotten to only build. Uninterrupted. 

Just a woman and her drill and a plastic coyote. It’s been a micro good time in a macro bad time.

Building myself a proud parent

Speaking of building. For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been working on a proud parent machine. It’s really simple: you pay it 25¢, it extends an arm, pats you on the shoulder and says “proud of you.” 

It has been such a blast to build. I’m almost done, but I still need to decide on what font to use for the box that I made. The lettering will be laser cut plywood. Any one of these tickle your fancy? Or does your fancy remain stone-faced and untickled?
