What's new? (ver. 13)

This update requires new diagnostics (for Zen 3 owners)!

  • Frequency fluctuations during dynamic profile operation are significantly reduced (updated rules for dynamic profiles).
  • Improved prevention of frequency peaks in light load (overboost, which leads to crashing). User intervention in the OB settings for PX HIGH is welcome to achieve better performance or stability. If you encounter instability you can decrease the OB for PX HIGH (rarely for PX MID) by 18, try increasing the voltage for PX HIGH (1375 -> 1400, for example) or increase the CPU LLC level.
  • The profile holding settings have been changed. Profiles should not react to Windows thread manager stuttering.
  • Adjusting CO (Curve Optimizer) calculation for Ryzen 9 5950X.
  • Added basic support for AIDA64. Since this application does not use CPPC I cannot guarantee its stability.
  • Changed presentation of CO (Curve Optimizer) information (each value has either a minus sign or none).
  • Auto update does not want to work (fixed).
  • The debug information will only be available if the "NOTIFICATION" option is enabled. It is recommended to use only to find compatibility problems in the system.
  • Improved performance in some games and applications.
  • Other minor fixes and stability improvements.

What's new? (ver. 8)

  • Prime95 30.6 build 4. Fixing Prime95 errors.
  • Updated more accurate OB diagnostics, you don't have to adjust anything. The OB values will be set for each profile + saved automatically.
  • During the OB diagnostics information about CO (Curve Optimizer) coefficients is presented to the user. If for some reason you can not use CTR HYBRID OC - you have an alternative. Simply enter these CO coefficients in the BIOS. I know that there are some scripts that help find the CO. My solution is simpler, faster and more accurate. Why? I get an answer from SMU, i.e. the processor tells me which base curve it has and what it likes and what it doesn't like. For testing I also use AVX multi-core load. This allows me to get optimal results not only for each core individually, but also the result of interaction of all cores simultaneously. There are no alternatives to this function.
  • Automatic update for CTR. Every time, when you start CTR, a secure TSL connection will be made to the github server where updates are stored. If an update is found, you will be notified. The process is fully automatic. After confirmation, the files are updated and the CTR is started. About the github server. It is protected from hacker attacks and also has anti-virus software. Your system will always be safe.
  • Load type detection system. This system allows real-time dynamic profiles to change their settings for maximum stability and performance. Now you can find out which application uses FMA3 and which uses AVX1 (for example).
  • The response speed of dynamic profiles has doubled. That is, the frequency change speed is 8ms instead of the usual 16ms. This allows you to increase or decrease the frequency faster in relation to load and conditions.
  • Windows notification. If the CTR is minimized or minimized to the tray you will not miss important messages. In the bottom right corner you will receive different kinds of notifications. In most cases this information is not critical, but it is worth writing to Discord about it. At the moment there are compatibility problems with the following programs: AIDA 64 (blocks global PCI mutex), Aquaero(does not allow for the use of global PCI mutex), Corsair iCUE (does not allow for the use of global PCI mutex) and AMD Ryzen Master (does not use a secure connection to the SMU).
  • EXTRA BOOST - superstructure for OB, which allows dynamic profiles to run at higher frequencies in SSE - AVX1 loads. On average this is an extra 25-50 MHz without increasing the voltages.
  • Full adaptation to CPU LLC (Load Line Calibration) Auto. Sometimes LLC Auto allows you to get more performance.

Great stuff, Yuri Thank you!

Brilliant work - all credit to you and everybody involved. Looking forward to using it when my PC finally arrives from the builders

Looking forward to hearing from the community about this one!

...pleased to confirm....rock solid...no crashes...Mr Doom Guy appreciates it

What does this "AIDA 64 (blocks global PCI mutex)" actually do? I use AIDA for monitoring displaying to an old Galaxy Tab. How is that issue going to affect my system?

1usmus

Periodically blocks the PCI bus. Theoretically, this could affect the stability of CTR. Practically, the effect is very weak.

Even in light browser usage, I am having many SMU_BUSY_1 errors (in notifications and UI): 12:03:54 AM: SMU_BUSY_1 100.5 12:20:51 AM: SMU_BUSY_1 101.4 1:03:35 AM: SMU_BUSY_1 99.6 1:07:40 AM: SMU_BUSY_1 99.7 1:22:23 AM: SMU_BUSY_1 99.6 1:36:05 AM: SMU_BUSY_1 99.2

1usmus

Who told you that these are errors? These are not errors. This is information for testers.

Anonymous

No crashes and games have been running smoothly but this one and the previous version have been giving me worse scores on CB20 when 'tuned' than before it was tuned. Not a big issue for me, just letting you know.

Please tell me what i need to do... follow ALL the steps, including deciphering the conflicting information between the big guide/manual/release notes. ram stability confirmed, numerous hours spent in discord, being told my CPU shouldn't have been sold to me (not helpful) - change bios - all the excuses under the sun that its not CTR at fault... EXCEPT when i ask why RC5 ver 15 works PERFECTLY... radio silence. When trying to track down root cause, and the only variable is the software version... its the software. Then to be told "the next version will fix that problem" and see instead more features and LESS stability... clearly there is no apetite to fix the edge cases. If this is the case stop stringing along paying users, I took you at your word you were actually trying to fix things, but it feels like you just wanted the subscription to continue?

And i know you "keep getting emails from less experienced users complaining of x" - you have produced a product that is being marketed as able to achieve what experienced users can achieve manually, but via an automatic process - aka a "press this button and it will work it out". To then act surprised that this product is popular with inexperienced users, who are the type of user base that just wants a product that works without needing to learn the underlying mechanics... all "tweak this and that" begins after diagnostic completess. but in a lot of cases pressing that button just causes crash after crash until CTR stops bothering to start up with windows... what does a user do if the software fails at step 1?

1usmus

To get better results, you will need to manually increase the voltage (and then perform profile creation) or just increase the OB. For some systems the OB reserve is huge. The OB increase step is 10. I made this build with a lowered OB because there are a huge number of users who do not understand how to configure the OB.

Even with default CTR diagnosis results, Geekbench 5 and Cinebench R23 crashes on both multi-core and single-core, and system reboots immediately. 5950x, Asus Dark Hero v3501. (All requirements are OK)

Power management make sure its set to balanced gave me many issues when I didnt realize it was set to max preformance

1usmus

I made an announcement in discord. For users who do not try to change the PX OB by themselves, I make an automatic utility. Thank you for sharing the details.

1usmus

So the maximum performance profile creates problems? Do I understand you correctly?

Sorry not in your app but windows power options

Alright, Just loaded up the RC6 Ver. 13. Must say first and foremost, I am impressed with the compatibility. I deactivated my RC6 V.8 profiles, cleared the CTR saved settings, Turned off the pc completely, then restarted the pc, Opened the new RC6 V.13 and it said "Profile Settings Reapplied" You all have to watch out for new versions saying this ! What it means is that even though you have ran the CTR Config Cleaner, it somehow is pulling up the old settings. So i ran the CTR config Cleaner AGAIN, then Reopened RC6 V.13 and it gave me the proper info of system stats and profile voltage settings. I ran the diagnostic, which ran through everything very quickly and rebooted once, then when windows started, RC6 reopened and had my saved Profile. Perfect and Smooth RC6 V.13 has the highest speed values yet, and surprisingly is giving me lower temps, with my 5900x sitting between 36 to 38 degrees. NICE! i'ma stay at this version for a while, haha Great Work Yuri.

Hi there, i still got the problem that my profiles dont get filled after Diagnostics/Profile calculation. I tryed it several times now. Deleted the complete CTR folder, restored default settings, ran diagnostics/profile calculation without 'CB20 testing' but there are still no results saved into the profiles. PX stays at min/mid/high freq 0. I uploaded a log file to the CBT thread at overclock.net https://www.overclock.net/threads/new-clocktuner-for-ryzen-ctr-2-1-rc5.1773637/post-28820744 maybe it helps finding the problem.

1usmus

In your case CTR was unable to run Cinebench R20 (2T, 4T and 8T) or Cinebench R20 was closed by the user. Unfortunately, I don't know why this happened. Try downloading Cinebench R20 and reinsert it into the CB20 folder (this is the only way to clear CInebench R20 from user settings).

I have a BSOD, freeze, or reboot after a lot of hours and Event Viewer says it's Processor APIC 9, 10, or 11 (Core 4-5). Which profile should I change the OB, voltage, or clock? Everything else seems good and so far the best I've had.

1usmus

Hi! Let’s try PX HIGH, MID and LOW -20. Extra boost disabled ?

Anonymous

I can't get RC6 running stable on my PC at anything close to what I could get in RC5, I can't make sense of it myself. I disabled any kind of dynamic profiles by setting CB0 on all P#, set frequencies that had been tested stable in RC5, and added 25mv voltage to profiles each time I crashed, yet still had crashes. Can you please send me a link to the Discord? I'm hoping someone may be able to assist in checking this with me. I'm running a 5800x on Gigabyte B550 Vision

Anonymous

id second jamie May have to go back to RC5. Right now my CTR is just off. The diagnosis part works better on this version but once the profiles are on, it crashes. Within an hour, every time. Dosent matter if i boost voltage or lower speed. I think it clashing with other programs. keep getting pci mutex errors. Like a ton of them, then crash. I know it sucks everyone trying to tell you what to do, but may I suggest like a OC then a work setting. The work being more stable and not pushing to the point of instability. I love the idea of getting the extra performance but cant sacrifice reliability, as its how i make my $.

I´m trying to set CTR profiles as follows: P1 as higher voltage and higher freqs for heavy loads starting from 75% CPU usage. P2 as undervolt profile for medium/low loads below 75% usage. CTR doesn´t let me do it. Any suggestion about how could I achieve it? Thanks

Is there a guide for stepping up after auto profiles and ob settings are enabled? How do I go about improving performance after the initial setup?

Anonymous

As always great work. I am now little bit confused. Are the other settings in the bios now unimportant. Global c state control and the other settings from the bios guide?

Anonymous

Hi I've just ran the diagnostic on new version but I'm a bit confused about px ob limit, ob high and all It's all new to me i don't know if i should tweak anything Also i saw after than i needed CPPC and prefered core enabled. it was on auto is this OK or should i run the diagnostic again? I have the latest chipset driver installed which was released today , is it ok or should i uninstall it? If so should i run the diagnostic again too? Thanks!

elpuertorro

Same here can we please have an UPDATED settings needed for install, TY

how to fix CMD_FAILED 5 error when px is enabled?

Anonymous

I'm having frequent system reboots recently, only significantly change was applying the recent windows update. Anyone having stability issues?

Anonymous

For LLC should I leave it Auto in bios then?

Anonymous

I've seem to stablize system by reducing all profiles by 50mhz and setting OB TO 0

Anonymous

Not as aggressive, but the first version ive used and tested qith zero issues. Worked flawlessly on a pc with 3900x. Testing with 5900x.. if no issues, you are "the king". Will update if 2/2. Ill take 100% stability any day.

Can't diagnose with 5800X and Noctua NH-D15, 3rd testing phase produces over 90ºC temps and the process is aborted

right click your start button select power options click on additional power options make sure you are balanced not max performance I had the same issue changing this fixed it

Hello, wanted to share a heads-up. I've been running CTR 2.1 RC6 ver.13 June 3. Last night, windows performed its June update, and the following morning my machine did a hard reset a short time after the first boot. When it came back up, it again did a spontaneous reboot a short while later.

Anonymous

Oops - hit return. To continue, I assumed it was the updates, but not seeing any recent news of issues, I thought to 'exit' CTR as soon as it started to run after a reboot. I waited a short time --- then Bitdefender, the antivirus I run, said it was disinfecting a file. Yup. It reported a short time later that that "The file H:\CTR 2.1 RC6 ver.13\CTR_UPDATE.exe is infected with Trojan.GenericKD.46438418 and was moved to quarantine. It is recommended that you run a System Scan to make sure your system is clean". Some time later, it reported the same for the original extracted files in my download directory. Clearly, the reason for the spontaneous reboot was Bitdefender attempting to quarantine the file. I also assume that the claim of infection is a false positive, but would appreciate just a sentence to confirm that, then I can contact Bitdefender and advise them that it's a false positive. Cheers!

Guys I have an issue with this new version, when I start diagnostic, it runs Cinebench and that's it. After Cinebench test is over, I can only see on the app ''Cinebench R20 Started" and that's it, it works well with the previous RC5 version but on this one process gets stuck right at the beginning. Can someone help?

Tom DePaolo

I have a question about the correct sheeting for PBO. In the PDF it says to disable ppt,EDC limits or you get a hot iron. If it is set to auto, disabled or to motherboard it stops due to high ppt, even over 250. What should I have the PBO settings set to for a 5950 on a dark hero? I want to keep this chip healthy, lots of overclocking on my last 2 cpu's definitely caused a drop in performance compared to new. When I ran this chip out of the box it seems to be a winner.

Tom DePaolo

Also, does it say manual LLC is recommended only if the current vdroop is too low or high? Or does that always happen?

Tom DePaolo

Have you cleared out the profiles folder and are there other versions still installed? I have had to clean out old installs and install fresh when I had an issue like that and CB20 wouldn't work right.

Anonymous

Is this: "Basic BIOS Guide for CTR 2.1 (beta 6 and RC1)", the one to use with the latest CTR?

Anonymous

IIRC: Target goal for vdroop is 2.5% - each motherboard manufacturer has different settings to achieve this and even some boards differ between each manufacturer.

Early access can get Project Hydra?

Any reason why this old CTR version was pinned?

Is it OK to set PX high voltage at 1.45v (5075MHz, OB=0), PX mid at 1.4v (4900MHz, OB=1) and PX low at 1.375v (4775MHz, OB=1) for benchmark purposes? My PX high is also stable at 1.425v (5025MHz in an air-conditioned room and 5000MHz without air-con [ambient temp at 35 degrees Celsius]). I've never managed to achieve stability at 5000MHz and 1.4v. Thanks.

Tom DePaolo

It is the latest standard version. The other releases are the game mode versions.

Tom DePaolo

I'd say it's fine. The older versions of CTR used voltages in that range up until dynamic profiles were added if I remember correctly. If you have LLC turned up high also it could be bad for the chip at that voltage. 1.45 isn't crazy for PX High at all. The starting voltages are pretty conservative now at all levels. For max performance you need to do some testing at different voltages. If I just hit diagnose It sets a 5950X to 1050 and 1150 for p1 and p2 and 5900x to 1175 and 1250.

Anonymous

I am having the same issue. Aorus Master, 5950X, 64gb Gskill Neo, custom cooling.

Anonymous

I think, I got a (for me) working solution: Issue was an instant crashing during the diagnostics with no profile creation. My solution was: Increase the diagnostic voltage to 1290mV. After that, CTR was able to create at least 2 of 3 profiles. P1 was still missing. After succesfully running the calculate OB, I created the P1 by myself. Now, after some Cinebench R20 and AIDA64 testing ist seems to be stable.

Anonymous

Edit: Nope, keeps in crashing in games. Diagnostic still not creates any profiles. (Exception: one time PX was created). Rating jumps between "Bronze" and "Gold".

Anonymous

Is your ram overclock stable? I know a poor ram oc in the past would cause the ratings to change to a lower value.

Anonymous

Hello Keith! I activated the XMP Profile, so it should be OK. Now, I tested Hydra and it works perfectly.

Anonymous

Hello! When I start windows the profile don´t load. I have activate this option in profile settings

Hi there, I am quite new to this world of overclocking and optimisation, and have a question about what profile would be best to optimise using single thread processors. I have a threadripper 3970X 32 core processor and am running Ableton, which makes use of single threads. What would be the ideal profile to aim for? Can provide the diagnostics if that would help as well. Thanks for anyone's help here!

Anonymous

Hi Alejandro, I don't know if you have already solved the problem, but if you cannot verify that the CTR does not have the option to run as administrator enabled, and you can also force Windows to start CTR by placing a CTR shortcut in the startup folder, You press Windows button + R to open run and type (shell: startup) without the parentheses and copy the CTR shortcut in there. I hope it serves you, good luck

Anonymous

Hello! i just became patreon and after downloading the RC6 version of ctr lets say it doesnt detect the temp or the frequency of the cores and when i try to diagnostic it kinda crashes, it didnt happen with the RC5 version and i haven't touched anything. Any ideas? thanks!! if this helps i have a dark hero mobo and a 5900x, 3600 Ram

Tomasz Muszyński

CTR has a bug from the very beginning caused when start up a computer from hibernation. It is unable to apply profile and CPU works on default prams. There is also no option to Run at Windows Start. I think that you should consider to add some idiot button for people not interested to know whole tuning procedure. Just pressing once and after hour everything is set and done. I have to complain that I have lost over an hour and after tuning it did not create profiles or maybe I did not know how to do it - it was better to see on previous versions - just pressing a button to crate profiles . But Idiot button would be better :)
