Dear patrons,

We require your wisdom.

After carefully considering this topic, we formulated the following question and we'd like an open discussion with you. We ran the same poll on the Patrons-only discord channel beforehand to feel the waters. We received an incredibly heartwarming support, so now we submit this question to everyone.

Filip released about 200 songs on Patreon in less than two years. The backlog is growing fast and we would like to do more with it. More precisely, we would like to organize older tracks from the Patreon backlog in new thematic albums to distribute on Spotify, Bandcamp and such. We would do that to stay as active as we can on Spotify, and to alleviate the effects of the "hit and run" strategies some people do, which are morally questionable when compared to the value of our content.

What do you think of it, considering the following conditions ?

  • The tracks have been for at least a year on Patreon (so everyone had plenty of time to download them.)
  • The tracks would still be available on Moulinette. The Moulinette admin created an option I requested some time ago which allows creators to set a threshold of payment/(or time) above with you get access to content. In other words, if you've been subscribed for a year in total (interruptions don't reset the timer), you keep the access.
  • We will not mix Patreon tracks and non-Patreon tracks on the same albums. In other words: you'll never pay twice for the same content.
  • Bandcamp and Patreon cannot get synchronized, at least not without heavy dev work which is far beyond our financial capabilities. That means distributing download codes for albums isn't possible. We already distribute some codes manually to our higher tiers, but sending codes to ~550 people instead of the usual ~40 would take a week of work, each month.
  • This post doesn't apply to ambiences and SFX.
  • If these albums become available on Bandcamp/others, we'll make it clear it comes from Patreon so you don't buy them twice.

Patreon is a core element of the well-functioning MGS machine, and your opinion has the utmost importance.

Thank you for your time and for your incredible support. If we couldn't rely on you, we wouldn't be living the dream of creating TTRPG audio for a living.

Michael, Filip and the team

I'm all for you folks monetizing your work however you can! Personally, I don't sign up for Patreon so that I can have exclusive access to your work, I do it to try and support you folks so that you'll continue to make great content. This sounds like another way for you to support yourselves so I'm 100% for it!

I'm new here, but I'm with Cole. I'm here for the music, not the exclusivity. The more people who have the chance to up their game quality the better. My enjoyment of it is certainly not based on someone else's!

To be honest, I just joined and it is right now confusing enough where to get what from you folks. I am totally fine with "recycling" material for example into foundry vtt modules. But right now I have problems in figuring out what foundry module example to get from your shop. I am totally for it but maybe color code modules or so ?

Are you on Discord ? It's not the first time I read that but I'm at loss at how to improve things further... Would be nice if we could write to each other.
