I've just noticed that Patreon recompresses my images quite horribly when I add them to a post, but doesn't do it when I upload them as attachments. And that compression showed really, REALLY badly on the last Anza post. So the PROPERLY compressed image (max quality, virtually unnoticeable compression) is attached in this post.

On a side note, I know I can use PNGs instead of JPGs, but would you really want to wait for a 10-30mb PNG to download each time? Because that's what most of them would be. XD

Anyway, that's how I will be doing things now. A resized version as a post's image, and the full version attached.

Really sorry about that; I didn't know it did that!

I wouldn't mind PNG pictures. On displays will high color space jpg's tend to create visible rings. The quality difference between this two pictures is huge. But even this version still shows artefacts on my better monitors. Would you attach the PNG so I can find out if it's my hardware or the JPG's?

I'm absolutely and totally fine with massive PNG files. I want to be able to hang these pictures on my wall on an 80" canvas, and really, REALLY have all that lovely detail pop out. But in the meantime just making everything into attachments is a fine stopgap.

Dumb compressions. This sounds like a good fix.

Sure thing; the PNG is attached in the post! Though in this case it might be the picture's fault. It's pretty dark, and banding is a common thing in such images (at least when I make them). But do let me know if there is a visible difference between the two, I probably need this information!

I think I'll just be trying to save every pic as a PNG, and if something gets ridiculously huge, I'll JPG it instead. Because really, there shouldn't be any visible difference between a 6mb jpg, and a 14mb png, other than wasted bandwidth and HDD space. We'll see what The Nubus below has to say about this!

Yes! Send us the png's please. Some of us have 100 Mbps internet and 30 MB files are no problem. Just grabbed one a moment ago in about 5 seconds.

Yeah, I've started posting everything as PNGs now, since the reaction to this post was pretty much overwhelming. XD
