Hey there!

Here's the full draft of the new video. I hope it was remotely worth the time it took to make it!

Let me know any glaring problems with the music / voiceover balancing, and also if I made any obvious mistakes in my points, lol.

If your name is missing from the credits or you want it changed, please use this nifty request form we made for it!

This is, definitely, the longest video I will ever make. 3:33:33 is a nice round number, after all. Also, I like having a life. The final layers of polish I aim for take exponentially longer to do based on the video's length. If you have to make something look/sound consistent across a whole video, and the video's this long, it's a nightmare. Cool behind-the-scenes example: if it was half as long it would have taken an eighth the time to master the sound (which I'm still tinkering with now).

I put every other important thing in my life on hold when a video is close to done, and a video like this is "close to done" for so long I'm probably about to file my taxes late and go to prison or something. I'm not clear how it works but my bookkeeper's emails sounded very scary. This isn't a joke, I'm going to bed right after posting this and when I wake up I have to do a year's worth of taxes before February ends.

Thanks so much, as always, for your support, I truly would not have been able to do a video like this without knowing my audience is so incredibly patient and onboard with this kind of content.

- Harry

God bless. What an incredible blessing on this fine wintry day.

Absolutely crazy man I love you

IcyPenguino

Just before my 15th rewatching of the Pathologic video? Oh boy!

Anonymous

just casually dropping THE IRISHMAN of video essays, my man

Anonymous

This timing is perfect. I’m gonna go get lost in this instead of working haha.

Anonymous

Incredible length. Sounds like it has taken quite the toll, so I hope future projects won't be nearly as all-encompassing for you

Jacob Freedman

I get Elden Ring AND an hbomb vid?!? :O

Anonymous

IT'S HERE! Thank you so much for making this, I knew nothing about Deus Ex before you put up your first draft of this video and now I'm deeply invested and excited to learn more. Please get so much sleep.

Anonymous

I was supposed to go on a date, but got to cancel to watch this. Thanks Harry.

Anonymous

Harris will not be returning to Smash, as he recently committed tax fraud.

Corran MacCorran

Isn't today the last day of February?

Anonymous

Yyeeaahhh!! Also, er, today is the last day of Feb dude

Anonymous

Harris do your taxes!!!

Kae Hanrott

It's here! The Patreon update I was waiting for! (sorry other people I support but you don't bring me 3+ hours of video game analysis joy.) Off the back of this project my 13 year old has just started playing the original Deus Ex, which is fun. Get some sleep Harry, and sorry if you get a fine. Blame the many iterations of Eidos, and of course, Squeenix.

Anonymous

YES!!!!! EDIT: OH MY GOD IT'S THREE AND A HALF HOURS LFG!!!

Anonymous

HELL YEAH

PerfectlyAdequate

Is it too much to ask for this to be released on 3/3 at 03:03?

Noclip

When we getting the uncut version?

Anonymous

congrats!! Looking forward to watching this tonight.

Anonymous

awesome, looking for your in jail video analysis

Anonymous

Hbomb I'm pretty sure February ends in a little over four hours for you, I'm terrified for your legal safety /hj What an excellent birthday present for me though, SO looking forward to watching this once I find enough willpower to pull myself away from Elden Ring

Anonymous

But did you put the bit about greasels back in

Tantacrul

It's 'Fine' and here's why. Hahaha! The hyperbole of this man!

Anonymous

Super looking forward to “going to jail for forgetting to file taxes in an editing-induced fugue is garbage and here’s why”

Cal

Jesus Christ Harris that's that long boy

Adam Greene

In the group picture of the original devs, there is a dude in the back giving the Davis Aurini stare, and I can't stop seeing it....

Anonymous

This is some Joseph Anderson level shit. Anyway, thanks for everything and take a well deserved rest.

Anonymous

I'm at about 8:31 and had to do a double-take at the Doug Walker clip.

Anonymous

At last! Thank you, this video will warm my apartment, at least until next year's Christmas!

Anonymous

Its a great video so far, but at around the 1:06:00 mark you mention how everyone will get to the same adam jensen just in a different order; its not exactly true because unless you farm experience by doing perfect takedowns on every possible enemy you wont get enough xp to get every single augmentation. Even with all the side quests and everything else. I dont know how much it has changed with the directors cut and how missing link works(by taking away your augmentations), but I do remember never having quite enough xp to get everything. I had most things, sure, but there was allways something on the final mission I didnt have; whether it was magic fall resistance or electricity protection or internal gas mask or whatever. This was my first immersive sim style game and I played it through a lot when I was younger, maybe about 7-8 times on the original version and I think twice with the directors cut? Anyway I was honestly overjoyed when you mentioned you were going to do a video on it, because this game had a massive impact on my life and how I view games since. Im going to watch the rest of your video now ciao

Anonymous

Love the Ghost In The Shell conversation

Anonymous

Dammit! I didn't change my name so now it just says "Joseph" THAT COULD BE ANYONE!!!!! XD

Anonymous

I literally went hoo ooh like a monkey when I saw the email notification

Anonymous

The nice thing about already watching the first 2 hours of this video while it was still unfinished is that now I get to watch them all over again incase something about them has changed :D

Anonymous

3 hours isn't entirely too long! I can't wait for your review of Donkey Kong 64 to be 24 hours long Harris Bomberguy!

Anonymous

You madman.

Anonymous

With every video, this Hbomb character starts to look more and more like Lenin. 84/100.

Anonymous

yessssss go off long king! do disco elysium or half life 2 next

Anonymous

"This is, definitely, the longest video I will ever make." I'll believe it when I finally see it.

Anonymous

Pausing to show my appreciation for the Episode One reference in the first 8 minutes. That's it. That's my only feedback.

Anonymous

Great stuff! Can't wait for the Half Life series video.

Quinn

but harry now i'm worried about you because in your time zone february IS already over

Anonymous

I absolutely love it being exactly 3:33:33. PLEASE keep it exactly the same length

Anonymous

I'm very sorry, but this is just too long for a thing I don't care about or I am not made to care about.; Telling me this game is the most important game in gaming doesn't really make me care about the rambling of how it is better than a newer game.

Anonymous

Ooft, this is a big boi

Anonymous

That's a lotta 3s

Anonymous

Deus Gex

Anonymous

When you are talking about RE4’s Rocket Launcher you can obtain more than one for free. I believe you can obtain about 3-5 of them, not including the red one at the end of the game

Hbomb

Are you sure? I was really sure there was only one free one

Anonymous

I really liked the video! Somehow a two hour movie is too long for my attention span but 3.5 hours on a game series I've never touched is captivating??

Anonymous

Your statement on just making the ending bad will make people overlook the problems hit me so hard because I was that person. I remember the endings being terrible, on top of that you being able to see every ending from that save file because it autosaved you just before you make the decision that decided your ending frustrating me so much that I forgot all the criticisms I had of the game up to the point

Hbomb

I had left the mod on by accident while recording the opening

Anonymous

Hbomb, it looks like I am wrong. I remember having to stress about having to in my cache, but it must have been on a NG+. Even the Wikia says I am wrong. Sorry bout that.

Crescent Minor

Ha! I was super pumped the second I saw this email update, but Lindsay also just put something out for her members and I got totally sidetracked. Now it's practically midnight and I just remembered what tonight's main attraction was supposed to be. It's kind of funny that I'm late for you showing up on time.

Anonymous

Hey, i noticed my name isn't in the Patreon credits, other than that its great and does a good job articulating why the problems with the game are worth talking about.

Cooper Lewis

I keep finding what I think are inconsistencies/discrepancies, but you either immediately address it (eg “scarcity”) or it’s some brief visual gag I missed (overlaying the dev video next time you said “scarcity”). Excellent work Harry! I was planning on waiting until the full cut before watching it again, so this was perfect timing.

Anonymous

I took serious emotional damage from the Soul Reaver tease. You monster.

Anonymous

You’re a king thank you

Anonymous

Which Québécois pissed in your cereals? Like, one or two jokes is fine but every time Montréal or the fact that the developpers are French Canadian is mentioned there's a joke about it. Between the fake accents and name calling, I stopped about 2 hours in.

Anonymous

I love finding out my favorite Youtubers also watched too much X-Files in their formative years.

Anonymous

At 24:40 you refer "they had to fight all the way to the top to get the FF25 poster in" -> this is a reference to a story you had in an earlier draft of how hard it was to get the poster approved, but that story isn't in this version anymore, so the comment doesn't make much sense. Not a huge deal, but thought I'd mention it.

Anonymous

"cyber racism" ...ableism. the word you're looking for is ableism.

Anonymous

can't wait for the next time you'll say you'll never make a video this long again

Anonymous

The punching through the wall augmentation, if chosen as the very first upgrade, gives you chance to break through a wall really early on that hides another praxis point. It means that it's basically a free upgrade if you choose it first. (Based on my memory of playing the game back in the day)

Anonymous

I think the story is still there, at about 2 minutes in!

Anonymous

Hi Harry, I really enjoyed your video. When I was playing DX:HR I by curiosity checked the wiki and there's a very overlooked character that appears in many late game missions (https://deusex.fandom.com/wiki/Narhari_Kahn) and if you don't kill him before the VTOL ambush he'll execute Malik if you don't save her. Maybe you found that throughout your research but I feel like he can go easily unnoticed by many players. Cheers and keep up the good work!

Anonymous

great video as always - i can definitely believe you’ve been waiting to make this video for years because good god it’s a lot, but hella satisfying to watch

Anonymous

My favorite part is when you mention that the 2011 game scene was basically one CoD or GoW clone after another, and this game broke that trend in a way that made people receive it more favorably. I think that's a smart observation, and as someone who started high school when Statix-X was in fashion, I appreciate you telling the story of how bad culture was for like 15 years between like 2001 and now.

Anonymous

This is excellent. Sorry my feedback isn't more helpful but I dunno how to critique perfection, having no evidence of it in my own life <3 Okay that's not true, I have a dog

Anonymous

Audio changes a little at around 41:30

Hbomb

Yeah, I really don't like how they didn't have enough gameplay uses for it so they just went 'here's a wall with some loot behind it I guess' several times

Hbomb

Yeah if you play a very specific way he turns up in a few places. It seems like he's a vestigial remain from a previous draft when he served a wider purpose. Bit of a shame

Anonymous

i think you showed an incredible amount of restraint by not spending time talking about the racist caricature homeless trash lady who gives you info in exchange for alcohol on the streets of detroit

Hbomb

Mild spoiler: I'm saving some of that discourse for the Director's Cut video, since the creators actually discuss her in the commentary tracks and I wanted to make sure if I talked about it, I gave the topic the attention it deserves.

Anonymous

I find it interesting how there’s two ppl that just vanish from the game. I had to google his name, but Detective Chase just vanished after the side quest “motherly ties”

Valium Sadfemme McGirlBoss

I hope you feel you finally did the topic justice :) Good luck on the next video ^^

Anonymous

Good luck with your taxes Harry

Anonymous

i really appreciate the unmentioned running gag of you throwing objects at npcs only for them to indestructible fixtures of the environment until you suddenly accidentally kill a man. mentioning this because it was lost on me while watching the drafts so i wanted you to know someone noticed and also its really funny in connection to the complete lack of melee in the game

Anonymous

the fraction of a second of nostalgia critic has me undone

Marc-Olivier Goyette

Amazing video! The Boss Fights section fucking got me good, but the whole thing's packed with great gags and very good points. I, uh, also can't wait for the people at work this see this when it releases. Their reactions are going to be... interesting.

Anonymous

I need you to know that I was eating a pickle at the very end of the video when you said, "the next game I want to review is the Deus Ex: Human Revolutions Directors Cut" and I nearly choked to death. You know its gonna be a good video when there's a body count before its's even been made!

Anonymous

I also need you to know, that wasn't a euphemism, I actually almost choked to death on a vinegar-y cucumber

Crescent Minor

Oh, wow! I love something about New Vegas that my new character's namesake does not! The minigame could use a better interface so it's not such a headache to compare letters, but it's more fun than the lockpicking game which I also tolerate. And it's funny to think your Pipboy's hacking software has kind of an idea of which words this keyboard experiences most, but it needs your human input to narrow it down to the password. It makes some sense, AI can't do quite everything. If we could boil down feeding them human wisdom to simple deductive puzzles, we're golden. Honestly, every time my character build doesn't make sense to have Science, I miss the hacking. I do agree that the skill block is annoying. It just has me leaving notes on everything about where to find them when I come back later. That was a little thing I liked in Skyrim: you don't know which end of the lockpick to put in, but you are allowed to try to pick the nobleman's Master lock. It's just going to be very, very annoying to do. Maybe if you can't hack at all, you don't get any passes, and you earn the ability to recover from more wrong answers as your hacker level rises.

Hbomb

Oh no it's much worse. I binged a bunch of it for the first time in 2015. I didn't see Deep Space Nine until last year either

Hbomb

Hey, thanks for bringing this up. I thought it would be funny to make a joke like that when the country came up, but the video ran so long that I lost track of how frequent it ended up being. We're changing at least one of them before the final video goes out.

Hbomb

While there are just enough points in the game to get all of them, you're right, it's a bit of a struggle. The point I was going for that the decisions aren't as unique because everyone's filling out the same one skill tree - there's no serious decisions to make. The relative scarcity of the praxis points does make it a little more compelling there, though, since your choices are a little more limited. I'll try to fit something about this in the scarcity section

swheatheart

I like your tie!! I hope you come to terms with your toxic relationship with Human Revolution.

Anonymous

Laughing at the “12 more videos are going to start this way “ gag because that’ll take 14 years

Anonymous

What a great video about a game I’ve never heard of. It only took me 2 days to power through my migraine enough to watch it all… I think I might be too much of a fan of yours actually. This might not be entirely healthy for me

Anonymous

I’m an insane person because the fact that bloodborne, Dark Souls 2 and Pathologic aren’t on the excel list is bothering me lol

Anonymous

Alright, I get it, I'm the only person in the world who genuinely likes hacking in Fallout 3/NV. But also, for locking hacking behind character's skill level - are you really against it? It's an RPG, character's skills should be tested somehow, not just the player's abilities.

Anonymous

Elevator rides are also a good place to hide loading times; that would be my suspicion for why there are so many of them.

Anonymous

I can't believe the bastards are actually taking on Gex ;-;

Anonymous

Sidenote - this is really none of my business, but I feel like the credits at the end should last longer? It's not like there were so many people working on the video that it would be a drag if I had enough time to read all their names without pausing :)

Gabriella Sands

That Hadestown reference made my day.

Anonymous

Wonderful video - since you asked for any issues, this is stupidly minor, but at 3:31:33, two art credits have a hyphen(-) and Sean Cunningham has a colon(:)

Anonymous

This is literally the most minor thing of all time, but I noticed that San Francisco is written as "SanFrancisco" at 16:49. ANYWAY, I've had such a complicated relationship with this game over the years and it's nice to know I wasn't alone. Phenomenal stuff all around!

Anonymous

i absolutely love this video. please never change <3 also i hope everything went well with your taxes!

Anonymous

Great job! Love watching movies on games I’ve never played lol

Anonymous

Make sure to use the form to make a request for credits!

Anonymous

This has been super enjoyable and I've been watching it in chunks because.... this is a 3.5 hour long video. I was going to go through and make sure no one else had the same comments as me but I have two writing critiques, one of which is that you make a joke that sounds almost identical three separate times about how many tranq bullets can be literally bought at the store, I can't even really defend it with the comedic rule of threes because the jokes are largely copy and pasted by the sound of them. Small critique on the writing of the voiceover, at around the 2:55:00 mark, in discussing the Deux Ex timeline you use the phrase "you'd have to deal with idiots on the internet who care about the timeline - prepare to be destroyed" 1. you're so obviously not an idiot and it's disingenuous to say you are, 2 (more importantly) we're almost three fucking hours into the video at this point, if they weren't prepared to be destroyed before now when the fuck will they? That said, the niche Hadestown reference? Love it, your friendship with Lindsay Ellis is showing

Anonymous

The "Chapter 12: Boss Fights" joke is great!

Anonymous

I watched this whole thing in one sitting while searching for shiny Pokémon.

Rach

Still at the opening cutscene bit, but I remember in the directors commentary they spoke about how much they regretted Megan being posed like that.

Anonymous

Loved everything in it. Listened to the whole thing while not doing work at work lmao Also other people have probably said it but I feel like you don't need to apologize for long videos. As long as you're not killing yourself over them, long videos are Fine. I, personally, am okay waiting. It builds excitement. My only comment is that at 2:17:52 while talking about vents you say "in Deus Ex, vents were like...vents. You could use them to your advantage..." and miss a perfectly good opportunity for a pun (adVENTage). Also the star wars prequel joke clip could /maybe/ be a hair longer? It's such a miniscule fraction of a second that it read like an editing error the first time I heard/saw it (I'd been looking away and backtracked to it). But that might just be me, it's still a good bit regardless.

Anonymous

I never asked for this... but thanks for making it anyway! Deus Ex is (shocking!) my favorite PC game evs, and you're my favorite youtuber evs, so I'm stoked to see this!!! Thank you!

Anonymous

Not to be an elevator apologist, but they're probably there to mask loading upcoming level bits/unloading previous bits.

Anonymous

Can’t wait for the DEHR director’s cut video, 4 hours minimum pls (only the tiniest bit of sarcasm, this is a good video)

Anonymous

One piece of feedback is regarding health and choice. You mention that you basically have health kits or scarce health bots. There is a third way to regain health through the health augment that through upgrades can make health kits almost redundant, removing the choice of when to heal. I could see a point of saying it is up in the air if you can find the health augment in order to pull it off.

Anonymous

Can you go back and replace the Phantom Menace joke with a Deus Gex joke?

carsausage

Is the Visual glitching at the bottom of the screen at around 20:52 a problem with your capture footage of the conference, or the result of an exporting error?

carsausage

2:10:32 Dialogue is abruptly cut off by short 440hz beep

Rach

In the story and themes section you mention the sidequest with the sex workers being forced to keep their jobs, there's another sidequest with the finance lady who needs the augs to keep her job too right?

Aleisha

That was so good, thank you! I'm an immersive sim fan who bounced off the opening minutes of DXHR so hard I don't think I even made it to the opening credits, so this was quite interesting for me. Considering how badly I also bounced off Thief 2014 (despite loving the original series), it was fascinating to see the workings of the studio, and how their design choices end up making games that, well, aren't for me, even if they might on the surface look like they are. p.s. The mind trick worked and I've reinstalled the original Deus Ex. But the question now is vanilla, GMDX, or Revision? Hmmn.

Noblesse Oblahaj

The words "the game equivalent of trying to replace sleep with your ADHD medication" makes me feel very seen

Hbomb

You have to choose to get the aug from a choice of 2, and then spend upgrades on it for it to be decent, and it still costs a lot of (finite when you don't have a bot nearby) energy to actually use. There's some degree of payoff to having it working effectively by the endgame so I don't think of it as comparable to automatically regenerating all of your health for the whole game.

Anonymous

Going to pretend I had anything to do with the Gex change in the conclusion: I mentioned it to some people in the know about Gex after watching the first 45 minutes and suddenly there was a new Gex filing...

Noah Monroe

I do think that in regard to the segment on disabilities and enhancements, it's important to note that sometimes people don't want to have to be forced to change who they are for the sake of appeasing an ableist society. Just look at the autism rights movement and how many autistic people don't want to be """cured""" by horrible practices like Applied Behavior Analysis, for instance. Or how some people who are wheelchair-bound don't want the kinds of exoskeletons that companies and rich folks want to make for the sake of either making them """normal""" or to make them good at very specific factory work. I guess that could be worked into something like how Deus Ex doesn't explore why a person would rather stick with what they have than to change it and instead crowbars it into societal issues that hurt its point. I dunno, I just think there are some very valid reasons why someone wouldn't want to be augmented in this game, even if it's VERY clumsily handled.

Anonymous

i think the mass shootings in america joke (42:30ish) is in pretty poor taste

Anonymous

It's obvious satire. Mass shootings are a disproportionately American thing. It's not like he's saying "lol school shootings are awesome."

swheatheart

I wish I had more to say I just have never played this one. There's always going to be more to say about class divide and disability but I think the pacing is too fast through this section. Talk about body horror if you wanna talk about body horror, but the Icarus thing does track with it- especially with how the protagonist is designed.

Anonymous

Nice video, Mike Dawson would approve too if he was here

Anonymous

Great job Harry. Time to have a rest mate. Regroup for the next project! All the best.

unboundty

Okay, so, I’m not exactly *cough* sober rn but I was just watching Harris’ Bloodborne video and thinking “huh. Gaem...mechanics” and frankly? I’d love to see him (you? Do you see these? Hi Harris!) do a reaction video to Genshin Impact. I KNOWWW, LISTEN! Listen don’t come for me 🤣 I don’t actually play video games, not really. I love to watch people play, and obviously I care about the meta of games because here I am, on Hbomb’s Patreon! But the only game I’ve been playing is GI, and that’s because it’s free and on mobile. Once upon a time I played a game called Free Realms that I think was run by Sony? I don’t remember, but I really liked the open world and accessibility it offered. GI has done similar things because again, I don’t really play games. It’s fun to see you disassemble Bloodborne and what makes it great, but your points are probably not things I’m going to experience myself because, well. I like mobile solitaire. 😂 I think a GI video would be interesting because yeah, it does have an open world! I think it has a lot going for it! But I think you could say some interesting things on ‘pay to win’ games, and how GI isn’t as overt as, say, Fortnite, but it can still be fairly insidious. As someone with an addictive personality, every time it gives me an option of using my own REAL HUMAN MONEY on items I have to stop myself from following through. Anyway! I feel like you’d have Smart Terms for it, and I see a lot of people my age playing GI, so 👀 mayhaps? It isn’t really your purview, but if you’re ever feeling something different I suppose!

unboundty

Oh hey, also Night in the Woods! 😂
