First off don't worry I'm not quitting or dying, if you want to skip to the end theres a TLDR

I think this is the last year I will work on the GrowthRPG, not quitting game developing, in fact I want this to be the last year so I can start on another growth related game. Growth games that are more narrow in scope that are planned out more and can be accomplished in a relatively short timeline of 2-3 years. I think GrowthRPG is a bit too limited with the context of growth and I would like to try other projects that would facilitate more growth scenarios. I know some people will be disappointed by this, which is why I wanted to announce this a year in advance, I don't want to rugpull anyone by announcing that a random update is the end of the game. I will also poll it, so if patrons really want me to continue with the GrowthRPG then I will. At any rate the goal this year is to get GrowthRPG in as good as a place as possible, so if I do end up leaving it for another project it will be a pretty good and complete game. Still have a lot of fun things planned for the game, I will be making and updating a roadmap for the rest of the year. Honestly I never thought that the GrowthRPG would get this big, or that I would be able to develop it for a living. Its been great and the best job I could imagine having, being able to develop my own game for a living, and I want to thank everyone who has supported me so far.

The other big announcement is I am going to be taking a hiatus in 2025, and it is going to be a decently long one both for my own health and personal projects. It will be at least a few months to a year, in which time I will be taking my patreon down, don't worry the animations will be available as well as GrowthRPG. Some of you might know however I have been working on my own personal projects, for even longer than the GrowthRPG, in fact GrowthRPG has cannibalized quite a few systems from my other games. I've only ever finished one very small one. And I won't lie, I am definitely a bit depressed about it, its been a bit rough trying to get two games finished and I've been doing it for around 5 years now, I love it, but I think I need to ease up a bit and just do one for a while.

As for life stuff, for those of you who haven't seen my previous post, I have been feeling tired all the time, I think I've always had it but this last year has definitely been the worst. Last year my goal was to fix whatever was wrong with me, even had some minor surgery, but it didn't help. I still have a few more doctors appointments, so hopefully its something simple like I need a CPAP machine. I don't usually like to share my personal life but it has 100% been affecting my work and a lot of this year will be determined by if I can fix whatever is wrong. I am also planning on moving, I've been putting it off for a while, one of the reasons I feel crummy all the time is allergies and I live in one of the worst places for it.

TLDR; I plan on this being the last year working on the GrowthRPG. I am going to take a hiatus for a few months to a year to work on my own personal projects next year. And when I get back either get started on another growth related game or continue with the GrowthRPG depending on how patrons vote

Thanks again everyone for your support

If you are quiting development on the game, are there any plans to release mod tools of some sort? I really think the engine of this game is fantastic, and it would be a shame to lose the potential for future custom content from players. I'm not saying open source it, but get some kind of lua scripting in on the growth functions and item spawning.

I wouldn't know how to add modding but I will be adding a debug menu next update where you can do all the fun stuff like spawn items or get infinite levels

Im a little late to the show and others have already said it better than i could, so ill make this brief. I can look around and see plenty of incomplete projects, and knowing when to wrap it up had to be a difficult decision to make. This project is in every way i can think of ambitious, and youve done well. Having a final way of content and polish is definitely the right way to go. Thank you for your transparency in this. I can understand how a long form project like this could change motivation over time. The prospect of new ideas/games is an exciting one. Lastly, dont be so surprised your game has done so well. Youve done beautiful work.
