Quick poll just to get a sense of this. When you pledge to a patreon for the first time (or come back after leaving for a length of time), do you go back through all the archived posts?

This patreon has been going on for years so there are a LOT of backlogged posts. I'm a fuddy duddy with the opinion that endless scroll wrecks the internet, but I wanted to know how many of you brave it to catch up on old work? The comics are a little easier (but not much) because I make accumulated dumps of them, but for sketchbooks and pinups?

The reason I ask is because, during the revamps, I'm going to have to go back through all of the archived posts and reassign their tiers. It's going to be a lot of work and I was thinking I might use that time to make one post that links to all older posts and acts as an archive. Patreon still hasn't created an archive tool, and I don't see any sign that one is coming, so I wondered if this would be of any use. (Watch, if I DO make an archive post, they'll bring out archive tools the next day -_-)

I do go back and search for stuff when I usually can't find it in my patreon folder for a quick glance, etc But an archive for the posts that aren't tagged or don't have a category would be good in the long run, so I'm all down with one 👌

Drizzle

I actually did this yesterday. And while I don't have a problem scrolling for a while, the page did seem to lag significantly when I got to around 2017. Might be something to keep in mind. I also noticed one of the sketchbook posts (nov 2017 pt1) was tagged as DD rather than the WW tier. Not sure if that was intentional or even important, but I figured I'd mention it.

DookFiend

When i first subscribed, I went through the archive for my tier all the way to the beginning. Since then, i haven't felt the need to go through it. I've saved all the sketches i love to my Patreon - Demicoeur folder.

ObservantLeo

I do go back and try to find the older parts, but I simply filter it by month. that way I do not have the problem with the endless scroll which can make my computer lag if I'm not careful.

Deviant

I do go and try to get all the previous posted content when I first join a new Patreon, and it's almost always a huge pain in the ass. Doing an archive post is a good idea!

Patreon isn't every good for finding older posts, I always save everything locally so I don't personally go back through archived posts. They really need a gallery function on here...

I would 100% love you if you made an archive post. That said, I’ve been able to make do with the individual post tags (comic, cinderfrost, etc) when I want to find something. It kinda sucks but I can still do it.

demicoeur

Oh thanks for pointing out that one's been mistagged! I can go back and fix it. Yeah, I find there's a lot of lag with endless scroll. Someone's just pointed out you can sort by month now, and that helps because there's not as many posts to scroll through :)

demicoeur

Yeah, I think keeping your own local archive is probably a much better way to revisit than trying to get through Patreon itself :)

demicoeur

Oh, I didn't realize they'd brought out a filter by month feature! That is super handy. Thanks for pointing it out, it'll help me when I'm going back to edit all the old posts ^_^

demicoeur

Thanks a bunch, it's sounding like it would be helpful so I'll definitely see what I can do about making a post to organize it all!

demicoeur

Yeah, I would do the same. I wondered for anyone who didn't join at the start how they manage it and it seems like everyone's got a method haha.

demicoeur

I'm glad the tags help! It sounds like an archive post would be simpler though so I'm going to see about making one.

Kaedal

Sometimes, I forget to grab stuff when it's uploaded, so I do tend to go back and grab whatever I might've missed over time. But even so, I don't think I ever reached as far back as I could. At some point the endless scroll got the better of me x3

Chrysalis

I usually go back through old posts, but I also hate endless scroll, so an archive post would be much better!

Anonymous

I do only because there's no other, easier way do access everything

Ulthar

I do, as a matter of fact i have to since ive been behind on some stuff i need to catch up, but i usually try tu stay up to date

minoan

I do, actually, but the format Patreon has isn't the best. Some of the creators I pledge to post a tiered .rar file every month for all the content they've produced that month, which I personally find very helpful. It's good for when you pledge to a new creator and you want to see all their past work, but it's also good just on an ongoing basis because it's an easy way to make sure you didn't miss anything.

Volpethrope

Doing some yearly catch-up bundles would be a good idea, so new patrons only have to go back to the most recent of those instead of fighting through endless scroll all the way. Jay Naylor has all his stuff rolled up like that, and after each of his comics has been done for a year, he adds them into the archive .zips that he links at the start of each month. With that system, you can scroll back to grab stuff from within the last year manually if you want, but also knowing that it'll just be in an archive for you to download eventually anyway.

I do try and go back, but I don't know if its the Patreon website or my computer but the lag is BAD so I end up giving up. I never thought of doing it month by month like Justice suggested though lol.

Patreon is rather inadequate for this, so a form of external archiving would be pretty ideal

Omi and Lucas

This is why tags can be very vital. Either character names, or even what animals a character is. That way I can find any deer, or wolves if that's what I'm especially interested in, or I could find all of Frost's images by searching his tag. Sometimes I do this in general with Patreons I've been subscribed too just because I want to look at content again and maybe didn't have something saved.

Filtering posts by month is absolutely essential when going back through an artist's archive.

Bu Dugen

Mainly if I'm after tracking a certain character down I go through all your posts

Ceris

It depends, for comic's I'd obviously catch up from the point other sites left off. For other material, if it's sorted at all I'd go through it if interested. Some of it depends on how much clutter there is. A few people I watch put up tons of "watch this livestream" posts that don't go away after the stream and make the scrolling tedious.

Iris Lokspuhr

A lot of your earlier Monthly Sketchbooks I've not got saved anywhere just because my browser tends to either crash or stop loading if I try going back far enough, something to sort of link all of them would be nice. The endless scroll is incredibly frustrating and tedious to find something I saw 3-4 years ago.

Anonymous

I actually need to go back and catch up on downloading some of the ones I missed due to life getting in the way of me actually looking at them/downloading them.. an archive would be helpful but the endless scroll isnt something that bothers me.. I can select the tier/tag and it brings just those ones up, which helps.

Jing

I missed the poll but archiving would be convenient even though I've been a patron for over a year I'm sure there are quite a few things I missed that I would like to get. Thank you for the compilations of the comics! Sometimes I might miss a post and if I know there will be a compilation I know if I did miss one it will be in there.

Jing

That's an idea. Maybe Demi could archive them to dropbox and post a set of links to the dropbox folders. Then you just click on the link that has stuff you want. And of course give it a special tag. Like the tag "archives" would be a good tag.

demicoeur

Archive will get posted tomorrow! Hopefully it comes in handy to have it all labelled and in one place ^^ Sorting posts by month and tag also works pretty well (as I found out when going back and reassigning every post to the new tiers lol!)
