Why The Name Change? (Patreon)

Quite a few people with the release of the test video asked why i changed my name. The reasons were multiple to be honest:

1) BRANDING -  As a brand Apocrypha features still images, cartoon graphics and a creepy static blood red logo, hardly something that attracts people, unless you're gothic. Icarus is a clean slate away from the old branding. A move away from 'the guy from the simbro page that make cartoon static porn' and into a 'Who is Icarus? That test vid was really high quality!'

I'll use a modern day analogy:

What's the first word that comes to your head when I say:

'Fiat' the car company?

Anything you think of is the 'personality' and 'qualities' of the Fiat brand. now consider how different it would be if I said:

'Jaguar'

It's a blank slate and an opportunity to progress forward.

2) SYMBOLISM - Apocrypha was the books of religion that were censored and hidden away and kept out of reach of the public, forbidden and hidden knowledge. Also a realm in Skyrim where all knowledge was kept. Icarus is a Greek myth of a father and son escaping a prison by creating wings, they rose from a prison into the heights of the sky. The father gave a warning to his son Icarus NOT to fly to high, lest he be burned by the rays of the sun and plummet back down into the sea. Icarus did not listen and his wings burned and he fell and drowned in the sea.

For me moving from the prison of seeking knowledge with which to improve has led many to wonder 'what will he do next?' 'What will the next video look like?' As I have symbolically escaped from the prison of my own ignorance of learning thanks to another creator so too do I need to remind myself not to fly to high and be arrogant, lest I suffer, like Icarus, a fall. I think that is a good reason to adopt the name change.

3) NEW YEAR - Timing was perfect for a 'new year, new me' thing.
