I would imagine, from an aesthetic perspective, #2 is better. It's nice to have a dramatic "moment" in the courtyard. The "nouveau Nadaillac" as I will now call it, is perhaps better as a cut flower and even a reason for one to go to the cut flower garden. "Voire le nouveau Nadaillac !" and all. I think your instincts are spot on.

Find spot for both! You won't regret having the cutting and the scent of the fifirst, but put the 2nd out in the courtyard.

Lovely! I agree with the idea of #2 in the courtyard and #1 in the cut flower garden.

#2 in the courtyard to stay and #1 in the cut garden to be brought in. They are so lovely.

Rose #1 is STUNNING

The chapel stuff really doesn't sound that serious. Can a specialist come down from paris?

Anonymous

Just get the both of them x

Both. Rose 2 in courtyard and rose 1 for cuttings. Beautiful!

How to choose ... Better you than me :D The chapel restorer sounds very unreliable to me, a second opinion for sure needed.

Anonymous

Sorry if I've missed it, has the accountant come through with all the financials as yet?

Anonymous

In time it will be fixed

Agree that rose number two will be in the courtyard, but rose number one will flourish in the garden and scent the house with their beauty.

I wonder if the restorer can work on the apse end, fixing the wall paintings there, while you are waiting for the structural work at the nave end?

Anonymous

I like your idea the best for the roses. Larger in the courtyard will have more impact :-)

Anonymous

Didn't anyone notice the restorer removing all the scaffolding before he told you about the issues? It would have been better to leave it in place for further inspections.

Why choose when you can have both? 🥂

OH My.. guess you did not research what critters eat during winter for spring naturalized bulbs,"Buried bulbs make tasty winter treats for burrowing critters..... good news is that it's mainly tulips that are at risk of ending up as animal dessert" Do expect you did research how to "critter proof bulbs" since you planted soo many Tulips (would have been better planted in containers"... Suggest you start tuning into Carol Klein AND Monty Donn...you are so fortunate to have a "beginner's mind"..will keep brain synapsis going!!!! good luck !!!!!

Both roses, for sure. And… do hellebores/snow roses grow in France? In the endless Chicago winters, they are the very, very first flowers to welcome spring… and they’re so lovely (and well-suited to more shady conditions) and they last a very long time. Ok, just a thought! Looking forward to seeing you soon.

You can read more about both roses https://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.40616.0 and https://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=2.36720.2 It's interesting to see the photos that gardeners have posted of each rose. I like them both. You definitely have room for both and I think you will enjoy them both. Yellow + pink sounds perfect!

Rose number 1 is GORGEOUS and most closely resembles the ORIGINAL rose, as depicted in the painting. Thus, I would place Rose # 1 in both the courtyard and the cutting garden. The best of both worlds! I would also plant Rose # 2 in either one or both locations, so that you can ascertain which rose thrives best in the two different sites. Also love the idea you described of having one “wow factor” feature for each season in the garden.
