Pictured above: pending main piece for this year's pool party!

Hello everyone to this month's briefing!

This month was quite a doozy as far as production and prepping goes, I have to admit!

First and foremost, there's the comics. Let me know what you think of both issues in the comments, they were a very big part of this month's work (specially the first part of Plastic Obsessions 005), since the image density in the layouts is pretty robust.

Furthermore, going through the entire layout and revising the past writing, I took the opportunity to further fine-tune the dialogue to make it more comic-y as well as giving a better fleshing out of the character's personalities (at least that's what I'm aiming for, hopefully it resonates with you all!)

On to the more regular work stuff (renders), since I got the new rig I have to admit I had been dreading going through the process of updating file paths and setting up everything in the new system to finally make the move to use it as my main workstation (up til this month, the new rig was being used as my super-powered network slave I'd use to help with the render load/work).

However, last month was a bit of a final straw as far as system instability with heavier scenes are involved. And, considering stuff is only getting more complex as time goes by, I've definitely been toying with the edge as of late.

But finally, I'm happy to say I've transitioned to the new rig fully, and it handles multiple character scenes like the preview above without even slowing down. Rendering however is still the same as before, since video memory is still a hard limit. I'll be chopping up the final scene you see above into renderable sub-sections and have it ready soon enough.

On to models and materials, I've been working at updating the main girls' meshes and skins yet again, as well as gathering assets and beginning setups for the upcoming Welcome to Unreality issue.

Still, that did leave this month a little light on the render work, so I'll be working extra hard this coming month to make up for that.

So, here's what to expect for August:

- The final second part of Plastic Obsessions 005, in comic format

- Finalized storyline for Plastic Obsessions 006

- Production frames for WTU 003

- The usual pinup work, with an emphasis on image sets

- Whatever else I can fit into the month

On a final note, I actually have been rather curious for a while... how many of you have been picking up on the hidden content/story I've been dropping once in a while? There's some things there that are rather relevant, specially with the next issue in Plastic Obsessions, which is aiming to take a rather... unexpected turn!

I have mixed thoughts about the comics. I like the comics conceptually. I dislike a lot about how they were executed. To be blunt things are drawn out in such a way most of it could be discarded without hurting the work. There are many ways one can use exposition. One way is to condense information through things such as character profiles. The Unreality series could have opened up with an extremely short explanation of what FabPharma does followed by going right into a board meeting where various products are shown off with the reader able to get some idea about the members of the board, the people who work there, and how they feel about each other. Instead there are now two issues where almost nothing of importance happens in them. By “nothing” I don't mean lack of sexual tension in a erotic story though that is a problem. I mean why do we need to know or see most of the stuff that occurs in them? If you wanted character development the amount of pages for it is so little a panel of exposition could have done the trick. Plastic Obsessions is a lot better but still suffers from too much “when is something going to actually happen” for me. Issue 4 has been my favorite simply because it has the most “This is a story about huge fake boobs. Not a girl constantly mulling over it while going through minor changes followed by more mulling” feel to it.

Thanks a lot for the interesting feedback, and for taking the time to really flesh out your thoughts. Comics for me is a pretty new medium so I'm definitely happy to hear some ways on how to tighten up the storytelling a lot more and get things moving.

If you want to hear tips about how to make comics for free while doing other things, there are a few comic critics on YouTube who will break down why a current comic isn't working and how it could have been done better. Often, this is too much exposition, clunky dialogue, or unrelatable characterization. The most prolific YouTuber I can think of is Comics MATTER w/Ya Boi Zack who is also self-publishing. Also, Just Some Guy offers good commentary.
