Hah! So! Still in that always-longer-than-expected period of "just about wrapped up" on the Pete episode, but here are some breakdowns of some shots I've been working on, and a couple mini tuts on hot glowing metal and basic tire rigging.

Idk if you still have the computer issue but I had a similar problem with my pc shutting down everytime I used blender and it turned out it was my motherboard causing the issue. Motherboards can often go bad overtime. After I got a new one everything worked.

Modular Buildings ASSET? May I ask how long until it gets released, because I'm working on a scene right now where I could really use something like this but when it takes like two weeks 'till its coming I'm just gonna build something myself. EDIT: Forgot to say: Great Video as always, one really does get used to this exceptional quality really quick;)

Great stuff as always. The van looks awesome! I love the bulging tires. I experimented with orienting the bone/lattice to the ground surface normal so that it looks good on hills as well. Haven't played with that car rig to see how easy it would be with that.

I also tried your glowing thing using real black body temperature (control the temperature gradient via the gradient texture). I felt like the fall-off was more natural.

IanHubert

OH WAIT- did that work for you??? That was what I wanted to do, but for some reason it didn't seem to be working on my end! That's cool :D

IanHubert

OH- because the gradient just goes 0-1, and it needs to be, like, 0-1500 or something :P

Awesome video - the amount of useful information you can pack into a 20-minute video is always amazing. I really like those breakdowns since your (near) final shots are usually so full of interesting details. Whenever I'm frustrated with Blender, there is another of your videos to pick me right back up. Thank you!

I should also note that you have to deal with the fact that zero degrees is still red. I was most successful using the gradient to modify strength as well, using the square of the value to even out the falloff. I tried some other stuff too, like multiplying the color by the gradient to get black outside the sphere.

I don't know if you've heard of the YouTuber 'DIY perks' but he had a great video about salvaging Fresnel lenses from broken TVs to create light panels that emit parralell light, imitating the look of actual sunlight. Might be a useful project if you need to replicate sunlight on a greenscreen with more control than natural sunlight.

Beautifull ;)

Great vid. When the Blenderesse car rig came out the other day my one lingering thought for how to apply it to a scene I'm working on was 'but how do i make the tires squish...?' This was perfect.

I remember we order some custom explosions from Detonation Films for our movie. I looks like he set them on a roof to avoid the skyline of his property )))

how can i parent objects to my car in the Blenderesse geo nodes setup???????

IanHubert

I think you could drag a new collection into the geo nodes setup and attach them to the van pretty darn easily- I’ll see if I can figure it out!

Anonymous

Ohhhh that seems promising… I opened the geo nodes editor and it scared me so I didn’t think of that :)

It would be fantastic to see a setup tutorial on how you are integrating live action/CGI now that you have the ETF tools. I saw in the previous ETF video how you generated a log sensor response curve, and it would be great to see that carried through and applied to a piece of log footage that is then composited with a scene lit with the matched HDRI.

I would make the explosion a little brighter. Something about it looks off to me.
