I really really don't understand the Bellost politics and top powerful organizations plz help.

Jac Onue

Belost has the Guild HQ, Foundry (Bank's crafting branch) and a bunch of powerful (noble?) houses. The Entente (to which Mora belongs) are like city guards, I guess. Legrutz belongs to one of the Houses, and is a very good light crafter (the paintings he casually created were better than the stuff Rain saw at the teleportation pad). The Bank/Foundry, which compete for light crafters' work (and which is considered a symbol of prestige/status in the city of light) saw Legrutz with minimal security and decided to snatch him up. However, since the space mage never talked, the Bank can always deny it, hence Rain had to kill the mage - as long as he lived, the Bank would be in danger, and therefore would be motivated to get rid of the mage (and Rain & co) to avoid a potential conflict. Since Rain killed the mage and left all the gear, the Bank has no need to pursue things further, and can just chuckle it up to bad luck, that 2 silvers managed to obliterate a whole group of silvers. Or at least that's what Rain is thinking. Since we don't know how much the Bank wants Legrutz, it's hard to say if Rain is correct or if the Bank will make another attempt.

Ooh smart, sneaky and interesting

Okay, considering how brutal and fast-paced silver combat is, I'm raising my personal estimation of barrier mages and their importance for a party. We've seen them used by both the Empire and Brovose so far, and while the former just turtled up under massive barrier domes to abuse the low damage limit, the latter could use Arcane Bulwark, Barrier Shaping and Affix Conjuration to give himself and others personal barriers. I'm not sure where Barrier Shaping is located, but I'm betting it's either from the Defensive Constructs tree or there might be a Barrier Metamagic tree. Based on the Battle of Three Cliffs, the imperial barrier mages used metamagic to make their barrier domes semi-permeable, since their attacks could pass through unhindered. Permeable Barrier could be a hidden Rank 10 Mana Manipulation skill. Anyway, an Arcane Mysteries Mage could spec into metamagics for their Arcane Bulwark and give everyone in their party personal barriers, thereby taking a support role while still retaining the ability to fling overcharged Lightning Balls around. The mana efficiency should be much better than Rain's wards and with either Triplicate Casting or Twin Construct combined with Spell Recursion they could even layer them. But without that, delving in silver rank areas would be suicide for most mages.

With how crazy the damage and damage limits get, at least one of the party buffing everyone's defense is practically required. Most builds are not going to have the stats to survive being hit past a certain depth, even if they had stat rings. Most delving teams would be best with someone like Carten. Someone with super high resistances and/or great armor, with threat attraction leveled out the ass. Most monsters would go after him and ignore everyone else. Unless the monster can overcome his resistances, they can attack him all day and accomplish nothing. If they're strong enough to get through that, a barrier mage or someone like Rain would save so much mana just protecting the tank instead of the whole party. And you don't even need to shield as much damage, making it even more cost effective. Obviously you'd still need to protect the whole party. You can't assume they'll go after the tank 100% of the time. But it would make things far simpler, safer, and affordable. Oo! Random realization. The threat attraction tree probably does something like allow the "scent" of essence out of the person's soul and makes it seem extra tasty. We've seen how monsters react even when it's just an accidental leakage like what happened with Rain.

Could it be that Legruz is so interested in Unity because it is using invested ordered essencse, same as his own runes? It would explain why it has no mana cost. If he ever shares his secrets and Rain incorporates the knowledge into his other auras, then they might even start contributing towards aura synergy for unity.

Random Information

Off topic, but while waiting for the next chapter: have we ever seen the advantage of Gold rank over Silver? The only Silver vs Gold fights I can recall have resulted in the Silver rank winning.

WannaBeATree

Better class stat boni, higher skill cap, bigger essense capacity, better essense generation, higher tolerance, probably some other things. So, more output and more efficienc,. Halgrave lost against his wive, probably because she is a force mage. Its like a person with a torch fighting a fire mage. As for the citizen, she did surprise him and buffed herself with a potion. To be fair, i am extrapolating. The main thing is probably the amount of passive essence generation and tolerance.

Arcanes

Wow, great chapter. I feel like this chapter brings together a lot of concepts we only saw/heard about in an awesome fight scene. Thinking about the fight, I think if they could get a decent tank that can somehow taunt foes and attacks, it will be nearly impossible for silvers to win against Rain’s auras and mana with Ameliah to support with burst damage and utility.

Random Information

Can you taunt humans? In any case with a tank, Rain and Ameliah could use their Defence skills via Unity. Ameliah's archery skills could be questioned as the best option - she might be better off changing to Tank skills in the future if they don't team up with a tank. Rain's auras provide the ranged offense. With Tank skills they can both fend off melee and ranged attackers until they work. I think the fight showed that Rain could have some difficulty against Pierce skills. That first attack was only blocked with improvisation, and it still did 70,000 damage to his armor. Something for him to think about.

Random Information

As a new chapter draws closer, I was thinking of a future scenario. Suppose Ascension finds or gets access to a low Silver-level dungeon. Who would you choose first to promote to silver rank? My choices (in order) are:- 1) Tarny (if he promises to beeline to Unity). Having another member with Unity would be awesome. 2) Carten. That would give groups access to silver-level Tank skills if Unity is used. 3) One of the Healers. A silver-level Healer would just be too useful when Ascension has 1000 people now. 4) Sana. She seems to have have the potential to be hugely powerful. Plus at Sentinel level she would have a voice in Ascension's future relationship with the Watch which she doesn't at level 2. 5) A Crafter (need to show that they are equals). However I'm not sure which type would be most useful in the current situation. Maybe Myth or Reason? Or Romer, the Runescribe? 6) Corrin - a silver-level Geomancer would be very useful in the current situation. 7) Clubbs - Hydromancer paired with Geomancer at silver level for really fast construction / terrain alteration. 8) A DPS. Mahria would please Halgrave, and ice might be a useful tool against the bugs. (Come on Sunday morning)

Elaborate

The fairest way is to just auction it out. However, Rain might bid on one or two slots and hand them out. Sana has potential, but there's an argument to be made for getting her to level 5 first, get her the best first Class possible. Val also has potential, and he'll need time to max all his Skills before he soloes a Silver Essence Monster. Having him near silver will make special stealth missions much more feasible. Carten is a good pick, because he'll help protect lower-level party members. Myth and Reason can likely afford their own slots. I'm very curious about the new capabilities they'll get. Likewise for the runecrafting guy, Romer. --- A low-silver Dungeon doesn't guarantee a Blue, mind you. Sure, if they can keep it going for a while, maybe one will spawn/evolve/however they come to be, especially if Rain figures out how to feed it. If they only have limited access though, the question becomes, 'which seven Unawakened should be Awakened to Silver level by being in the core-destroying team?'...

Fortunis

Oh that's fucking devious. They can literally get an entire list of a classes skills by using Unity on an enemy before they gack them. I love it.
