Please be careful with the technology and the uplifting. Far to many stories makzthe mistake of underestimating how hard many things are to do and how hard it is getting an experiment to work, vs getting it to work for regular use. To get a turbine right in the first attempt is pretty unbelievable. The right compression ratios, fin count and distance and everything is not something you can just eyeball. I get that stats and classes make things different, but they still need the design work. And rain having actually read the schematics of a turbine to bullshit remember is a little unbelievable to me.

I don’t know, I’m pretty shit at maths or engineering, but my ADHD has me reading a lot of random stuff at random times. Ive read up on dam design, power turbines and hydraulic engineering in general for no other reason than boredom. If I ever got the power to actually remember all the random binges I went on I’d be unstoppable. I agree with the rest of your comment though, thanks for pointing that out.

I've just reread 222 for the nth time and here's a thought to play with for all the theorycrafters out there: the biggest hurdle to bootstrapping yourself beyond your awakening level is the lack of a sufficient example to base the patterns on. It's been explained that that's what killing a blue does: provide a template to raise the paling's level to. It's also known that killing someone after they killed a blue, but while they are still in a dungeon is sufficient to steal their awakening. Does this mean that someone capable of soul manipulation could receive a piece of soul from a higher leveled person (as long as said piece of soul is actually at their system level) and use that as a template? And how does the cervidian level transfer figure into this (given that it splits up the levels)?

Rain didn't have a template to refine Rank 0 potential to Rank 1. He saw the pattern of the potential and pushed it to the next rank. Vatreece mentioned that the patterns get increasingly more complex and the essence requirements double with each rank, but you don't need a template. The problem is just that you can't automate the process, since soul structures can only refine potential to a rank below them by themselves. When Rain powers them with his will, they can refine to the same rank as themselves and to push any potential beyond that rank, Rain has to do it manually.
