I remember watching in 2011 as the Occupy movement rotted from the inside as the class unity against wall st quickly devolved into infighting about racial identity and religion and gender and veganism and a myriad of other stupid identity topics.

I've long held a theory that anti-centrism was a criticism of "big tent" organizing on the left. Basically the argument would go "well if we can have left unity, where all kinds of different stripes of left-wingers all align together, why can't we have extremist unity?, Where literally anyone who wants to change the status quo ally together?"
