Edited. Removed my making fun of 'First' comments, finished watching putting stuff in a reply so it's hidden. Not really spoilery but as Ruff didn't seem to quite pick the clues in the episodes up.

To quote some answers i'd found, "Mashima’s tweet [In 2013], many individuals speculated that there were internal problems, such as with the studios staff; others assumed that the anime was catching up too quickly to the manga, thus putting a pause on the series rather than fillers. Unfortunately, no one really knows for certain. Director Shinji Ishihira mentioned that the Fairy Tail anime would have a change in staff, such as a new character designer (Takeuchi). In addition, the series has officially switched animation studios and will no longer be animated by Satellite, but by Bridge instead."

No one REALLY knows why the switch happened, however the art direction changed to more closely match the Manga's artstyle. Personally I dont think either animation studios ever got the manga's artstyle directly, but I love both of them for different reasons.

The main reason for the studio change was a different pursuit in art styles to better match Mashima's art style.

I would definitely be cautious still about watching the openings, while this one is pretty tame in regards to spoilers, but most of the other openings are packed full of big spoilers. So fair warning

It does suck that Natsu isn’t in the final game but don’t worry the hype never dies down. Plus Natsu has his own hype stuff on the side so look forward to that. As someone who had to wait a year for this I can definitely say the rest of this arc was worth the wait

Ya waiting for Fairy Tail to return did suck, but it was well worth the wait. And that was a blink of an eye, because season 9 was released back in 2019. Now we wait for the 100 year quest, and it has been 4 years since season 9. I'm so hyped for the new arch I can't wait to see it.

So we know Levy wrote something about dragons attacking after the games finished, Jellal was able to recognize the woman in the cloak, he and Ultear felt that the Eclipse siphoning magic felt similar to Zeref, Eclipse lets people time travel, The knight wants to go back 400 years to when dragons were still alive. I wonder what happened.

You'll understand later on why Natsu was the one who was substituted; as usual, I'll tell you after it's safe to tell you just in case you still don't understand why. It will all make sense from a narrative perspective.

I dont exactly have the same experience with the hiatus and studio switch as most people (I paused watching this around the episode where Laxus kicks Raven Tail's ass bc I caught up to the dubbed release schedule and then didn't pick it back up until like 2 more arcs were completed) but going back in and binging the show only to suddenly switch to another slightly different artstyle was a little jarring to me. Personally I kind of prefer the original style as the colors were brighter and to me the new style's "low quality" moments (like when characters are in the distance so they dont have as much detail) are noticeably low quality (in other words they look kind of rushed and out of place sometimes). But overall, I think this new style fits the tone the story starts to go in. It's been mentioned before so without giving any specific details, a lot of the early arcs had a lot of fun and games in them. Arcs to come start to lean into a darker tone. Shits about to get good.

The art style is so crisp and clean. I remember back then when I first saw it, and I'm still loving it. But the old one definitely had its own charm. What I really like is how facial expressions look like in the new one and of course the HAIR :D Oh Ruff I totally get that you're a bit bummed that natsu isn't part of the final day in the gmg but it all has its purpose :D It won't feel lackluster that's to say. Looking forward to the next episodes, it's been so fun to rewatch it with you!!
