Sorry, Mega Carp is not available. Would you like me to transfer you to Meg Al Adon?

Its funny you'd think that Nanase, I figured touching the red bits would turn you human and you'd go splat in a funny yet not life threatening fashion.

Who would protect their dangerous artifacts in that fashion? If there is no consequence for failure beyond a reset, then a persistent person could just try to solo this over and over until they got it. The person who made this puzel clearly wanted to select only people who could harness the power of friendship or money. (Given the or money option, I'm not sure that these puzzles would be quite as effective as the designer might have intended. Also, I have known plenty of asshats who had asshat friends that they could count on enough to get through most of this stuff. Admittedly, those asshat friends, being asshats, would also readily laugh at them if they messed up in some entertaining (to asshats, at least) fashion, even if that was a deadly and entertaining (to asshats, at least) fashion.)

Its just a common platforming/climbing video game trope, the punishment for "failure" is starting over. It does make very little if any narrative sense.

Most locks allow you to try as often as you like. No one wants to be locked out of their locker forever for screwing up the L/R/L pattern, so presumably ancient people didn’t want to be locked out forever for screwing up their transforming wall magic.

All you'd have to do to try again is get back into the lizard hole.
